5.0 out of 5 stars Great value!
The ViewSonic VA2231WM 22 inch monitor offers a beautiful picture, great resolution, 1920 x 1080 native, relatively poor speakers (but if you cared about sound quality, you would have a separate set of descent speakers anyway). It comes with BOTH a DVI cable, and a VGA cable; plus a cable to support directing your sound output into the monitor's speakers. The base was...

3.0 out of 5 stars Dead pixels already?? Oh NO!!
This monitor arrived quickly and in great shape. It's a no-brainer to set up, and that's a good thing, because the one page instruction sheet is done in four languages. There's a CD that arrives with a pdf instruction manual, which I suppose is worth reading... especially if the dead spot on my screen gets any bigger.

The base was really easy to attach without tools; all other setup was trivial too.

If you're getting by with speakers that cost less than $20, then you'll be happy with the space savings of the built in speakers. If you "need" high quality sound, then just leave the speaker part of this monitor unplugged, you'll still come out better off (and you won't see the speakers anyway).

The performance of this monitor seems great statistically, although I have it hooked to my laptop via a Targus docking station (via DVI) that connects via USB to the computer, I'm sure that I can't get all that stellar performance this way, but that's not it's purpose for me.

This monitor is highly recommended, it has a great price here on Amazon.com. Buy one for yourself.

I purchased this monitor to supplement a new MacBook. I hooked it up with a DVI adapter and it works wonderfully. The screen is BIG, and clear and generally very good. It was an excellent monitor for the price.
One benefit touted by this monitor was that it is has built-in speakers, though I am not too impressed with this aspect. They are tinny and not very loud. Rather than facing the front of the screen, the sound comes from somewhere in the back, which seems like failed engineering to me. They might work if you have nothing else, but for permanent speakers, I would recommend getting some nice external ones.

Besides the speakers, the monitor is great. Buy one.

Samsung may have stolen some of Viewsonic's thunder in the LCD monitor market, but Viewsonic still makes quality products. Very sharp text, excellent colors and black levels. Unlike many LCD monitors, this thing looks stunning when connected to consoles. I tested it with my Xbox 360 and was wowed at just how incredible it looks. No blurriness or jaggy edges as you usually get with lower resolution console games on natively high resolution monitors. It looks so much better than my 40" 1080P Bravia that I am considering getting another one just for my consoles.

All around great monitor for a great price.

This review is from: ViewSonic's VA2231WM 22-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor with Speakers, DVI and Energy Star 5.0 (Black) (Personal Computers)
I ordered this particular monitor basically for the use of e-mail, and general computer use, and size, the monitor I replaced was a 15 inch that I had for a number of years, still working perfectly, just wanted a bigger screen.

I had a slight problem with my shipping, which was totally my fault, this product will not ship to a box number, and I knew that, but in my address I added BX number at the end of my street address, as I had used this a number of times before when ordering. After a few days of watching my order not moving from the shipper, finally discovered it would not be shipped with the provided address that I gave, ---removed the box number, my order was shipped to my home in 3 days.

Monitor arrived UPS in excellent condition, I had it set up in use within 15 minutes, everything looked good except the white background was to bright for me, also recommended was to set the monitor to 1920x1080 which I did, but had to change, because I wanted a bit larger print and icons for my desktop viewing.

I also used my original cables from my computer to the monitor, but then again that's up to you, so it was just a matter of disconnect, and connect again.

As for instructions you will have supplied with the monitor a set up disk (which I did not use, my computer installed with out it, 2 picture guides, and 1 printed folder in three languages, one being English for setting up 1920x1080. To put the base on the monitor it's just a matter of slipping the base into the monitor, no screws, or anything. You will have supplied a power cable, and a cable to connect the monitor to the computer, plus a cable for audio, all of which I used my own, but that again up to you.

I wanted to change the brightness of the white display, to find the setting menu, which took me a few minutes to figure out, look at the lower front of the monitor under the ViewSonic logo, you will see 5 buttons, the center one being power on/off button to the left of that buttons number 1 & 2 to the right off the power button is up/down arrows.
Push the #1 button to bring up the menu, to navigate from there go to the up/down buttons to move through the menu.

With a bit of trial and error you should be able to set up alright, actually not as confusing as it all sounds, better instruction on this part would help considerably.

The picture on this monitor is excellent, and probably right out of the box for most, sound on the speakers is so-so, not good, not bad, but I had my own, so just a matter of plugging into the monitor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crisp picture, October 5, 2010
This review is from: ViewSonic's VA2231WM 22-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor with Speakers, DVI and Energy Star 5.0 (Black) (Personal Computers)
Had this a month so far, no problems at all, all pixels working fine. Very crisp picture, colors and photos look great. There is much more leeway with viewing angle than I was expecting with the LCD so very happy with that. Chose 22" because of desk space available and chose this brand and size because of great reviews & friends' recommendations. Might go for a larger one in the future, but I know that even within the same brand quality can vary, so I was reluctant to try the newer larger ones Viewsonic makes until I see more rave reviews. It arrived in great packaging, nothing broken or missing and it shipped very quickly even with SuperSaver shipping. Would recommend it in a second.

My first experience with dead pixels. Didn't show up immediately; waited until I threw out the box. A black curved line, so far about 1/4 inch long. Not a big deal... yet... but disappointing given the fine reviews I read about this monitor.

Other than the dead spot, I like the monitor a lot. Great resolution, plenty of room to compare two different pages of tiny numbers at once. But I'm sure not looking forward to dealing with a warranty claim... especially without the dang box.

I would recommend this monitor for it's excellent video quality. Playing Crysis and the graphics are stunning. The built in speakers are "tinny" sounding, not a problem for me though because I have other speakers. I would recommend this monitor.

I was using a 27" TV monitor as a PC monitor. When it burned out I put the old PC monitor back on the PC and my wife say she was having trouble seeing the pictures or games she was playing. So I went to Ebay and found a pc monitor without speakers which I wanted. I won the bid and payed for it. A couple of days later the seller email me and told me they were out of the pc monitors. So came to Amazon and found just what I wanted a 22" widescreen LCD monitor with speakers for the same price ebay was selling theirs without speakers. My wife is very happy with the PC monitor and she is amazied with the picture quality. Now its even harder to get her to stop playing games and go to bed. Thanks Amazon.
