5.0 out of 5 stars Every BMPCC shooter should have one
For the price, this is a 5 star product. It does what it says it's going to do - block extraneous sunlight from washing out your Pocket Cinema Camera's LCD. It is sturdily built - and the stitching doesn't look like it will give way under stress. 3.0 out of 5 stars Will do the job I guess...
For the price, it's alright. It doesn't fit perfectly onto the camera, but with some adjusting, it will do it's advertised purpose. It's a cheap alternative, but don't expect anything amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every BMPCC shooter should have one, November 23, 2013
This review is from: LCD Viewfinder Sunhood for Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera (Camera)
For the price, this is a 5 star product. It does what it says it's going to do - block extraneous sunlight from washing out your Pocket Cinema Camera's LCD. It is sturdily built - and the stitching doesn't look like it will give way under stress. And it does fit the BMPCC's 3.5" LCD if you take the time to use the velcro size adjustment on the left side of the hood.

There are several other options out there that are more expensive - notably the European LCDVF that requires you to glue a frame onto your camera. But for me, glue and cinema cameras don't mix. I prefer this approach - a couple of easily removed velcro straps.

I have also wrapped it around an inexpensive old Cavision viewfinder so I can put my eye up to the screen. For the price, this sunhood is a no-brainer.

5.0 out of 5 stars BMPCC Perfect Fit, November 15, 2013

The blackmagic pocket cinema camera's screen is very difficult to view in bright sunlight. This shade does the trick! It block out unwanted light and is far less expensive than an EVF/Monitor... folds nicely for storage and has cloth "bumpers" on the part which comes in contact with the LCD.

Would buy again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it's supposed to, great item for the price!, January 26, 2014

It's not pretty, but for 15 dollars you really can't go wrong. This actually works surprisingly well! It fits the screen perfectly, although it is tough to center just so. It really helps outdoors in the sun. Sometimes the straps get in the way of your lens when you're switching, but it's not a huge nuisance.

I have my BMPCC with a viewfactor cage on it and with the cage this thing works even better, because now the shade fits right in the cage and feels "locked in" instead of slippery. The straps fit over the cage just fine.

Yeah an expensive viewfinder or monitor would be hella better but those start at 150ish for a decent viewfinder and 300 for a decent monitor. This is 15 dollars, needs no battery or Israeli arm, and is easy to remove, doesn't break easily, doesn't cost a ton to replace if you do break or lose it. No brainer. Get it, you won't be sorry, and if you are sorry you're only out 15 bucks.

4.0 out of 5 stars I can see Again!, June 11, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I Can certainly see the screen when i am able to look dead on at the back of the camera in the sun which is a plus. It gets in the way of a few buttons and rides on the lens release which almost made me lose a lens but if you are aware of this when attaching you can bed it around the lens release button. It does not sit on the camera as nicely as it does in the picture, there are gaps and it is constantly trying to go back into a flat collapsed position so there are gaps on the sides that can let in light. For a quick fix though it works and you don't need to have your eye pressed against the camera so that is a plus as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works surprisingly well, especially for the price, June 7, 2014

This review is from: LCD Viewfinder Sunhood for Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera (Camera)
If you plan on shooting with the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera (BMPCC) outdoors, you NEED a sunhood.

This thing saved my outdoor shoots on my recent documentary project. Without a sunhood, the BMPCC screen is nearly useless in full sunlight. This packable sunhood fits snugly and stays put, providing more than enough shade to see the screen. It has soft felt wrapped around the parts that touch the camera which prevents it from scratching the body and screen.

The only negative is that with both straps attached, you cannot open the battery/memory card hatch. This can be inconvenient on more "run-and-gun" documentary-type shoots. The only way around this is to attach just one strap, which holds the sunhood well enough unless there is a lot of movement.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cheap, but still low quality, May 12, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: LCD Viewfinder Sunhood for Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera (Camera)
It's a decent value for the money, but the ergonomics simply aren't there. Not much design behind this product. It doesn't stay in place on a naked camera, and it's even harder to position if used with a camera cage.

Would be nice if the top and bottom of the hood (on the LCD screen side) were protruding a bit more, fitting over the top and bottom of the camera. This would keep it from sliding out of place, at least in the vertical direction.

You could probably lasercut a better BMPC hood out of mylar...

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Great, April 18, 2014

Pretty great, especially compared to shelling out a ton of money on something that only works marginally better. Lifesaver in many situations. Only annoyance is that sometimes the it does't fit on exactly straight, but that's just my OCD.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must if you're not using external monitor on the BMPCC, March 14, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: LCD Viewfinder Sunhood for Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera (Camera)
If you plan on shooting outdoors frequently with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, then I highly recommend this sunhood for the LCD. Especially if you don't plan on using an external LCD monitor. The BMPCC LCD is difficult to view in direct sunlight, and this sunhood helps a lot to frame up that shot and pull focus. If there is a lot of direct sunlight behind you it doesn't work as good, but definitely worth having in your bag for a reasonable low price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Meh Tacky, March 8, 2014

This is difficult to get on straight without it covering part of the screen. Other users can attest to how awkward it is to put on. Still, it's cheap and better than nothing.
