4.0 out of 5 stars Nice TV for office
This TV is a nice addition to an office. It's not much more than a 22" monitor would cost, and has an ASTC tuner, plus enough inputs for my computer, TiVo, and DVD player. The TV tuner has good sensitivity, and can pick up the clear QAM channels from my cable.

I've only had this monitor/TV for about 2 months, but from the beginning it has given me spotty performance. I only paid in the mid-two-hundred range for this at Staples, but I agree with the reviewer who said you get what you pay for (at least where this thing is concerned).

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice TV for office, November 9, 2007
This review is from: Viewsonic NX2232W 22-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
This TV is a nice addition to an office. It's not much more than a 22" monitor would cost, and has an ASTC tuner, plus enough inputs for my computer, TiVo, and DVD player. The TV tuner has good sensitivity, and can pick up the clear QAM channels from my cable.

As a monitor, it's sharp and bright. Text is readable at the native resolution, and is usable at 1440x900.

The two negatives are 1) the pebbled bezel is shiny, reflecting light around the image (a distraction), and 2) the controls are mounted on the top, with embossed labeling requiring a bright light to see.

The remote is utilitarian, but I plan to use a universal remote when I get time to program it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, January 12, 2008
By
This review is from: Viewsonic NX2232W 22-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
We love this Viewsonic as our bedroom TV! I had purchased a 19" Sharp LCD prior, and just hated it. The color was all over the place, always having to adjust it to each channel, difficult setting changes, so took it back. Well, I have had a Viewsonic 20" computer monitor for over a year and love it, with no problems whatsoever, so I decided to try Viewsonic's 22" LCD TV. So glad I did. Was less expensive than any 19" LCD TV on the market, and I just love Viewsonic's color, ease of use, and reliability. Just plug it in, make a few setting changes for cable and enjoy. Viewsonic has some people that are using there heads when it comes to incorporating setup and ease of use in their products. That Sharp I had drove me nuts. With the Viewsonic, the color is vibrant and stays in tune with each channel change. I still am on the factory default settings, which means alot. For the price, ease of use, dependablity, great color, plus can use it for a computer monitor if you need to, I highly recommend this for an additional room TV.

I've only had this monitor/TV for about 2 months, but from the beginning it has given me spotty performance. I only paid in the mid-two-hundred range for this at Staples, but I agree with the reviewer who said you get what you pay for (at least where this thing is concerned).

My usage for the TV is in my living room. I don't connect it to a PC at all, but wanted the ability to do so when I moved up to a much larger and more expensive digital TV set. The color is good when I am on Hi-Def channels, but I think digital is digital so that's probably to be expected. The color on analog looks washed out on most channels.

I am comparing this coloration to my Acer 22" LCD monitor which I use to watch TV channels on my Media Center PC. Either the PC tuners are better (I have 2 installed in my PC) or the way color is displayed is better on the PC monitor. Either way, it's kind of strange that a regular computer monitor looks better than a TV set. I once had a 19" ViewSonic CRT monitor and it seemed fine at the time.

Another problem I have is the way I lose my digital signals randomly. I sometimes have to turn off and back on this TV just to get them back. It happens even on the strongest of stations--when one digital channel goes, they ALL go. On top of that, I have had this TV get stuck on the channel 1008. There never has been a channel 1008 where I have lived! Once I am stuck on that number, I can change channels, but the number always says "1008". Another sign of bad reliability in my opinion.

But the worst thing I had happen was when my remote control stopped working after only 6 weeks. I originally thought it was the remote, but pushing remote buttons caused my Windows MCE PC infrared receiver to blink red as if it was receiving the signal (this is actually a good test since it blinks even when the remote is not compatible with Windows). I had even bought a universal remote to make sure and that did not work either.

I called ViewSonic (who asked for my address before even giving me any idea they could help--that's got to be some kind of telemarketing thing and I asked not to be put on any lists, but I bet I will be) on a Sunday. It's great that they answer the phones quickly even on weekends, but after waiting for the phone rep to go look up what my problem could be for over 2 minutes, I was told I'd have to pay to mail this TV back and that it was probably the IR receiver in the TV, which I knew anyway. It's heavy and would cost me more than I think it's worth at this point so I declined.

What I did next I only recommend to people who don't mind voiding the warranty. I have a background in electronics so I figured I'd open this thing up and see if I could buy a replacement IR module or receiving LED. Turns out there's this little board right behind the little IR window under the power button. I disconnected it and pushed the power button a bunch of times. I plugged it back into the set, closed everything back up, and turned the TV on. Guess what? It started working!!! And to think they wanted me to mail it in so they could do that.

All of the remote buttons work perfectly from a good distance away so I think maybe the connection was jammed electronically and just need to be disconnected for a second. This repair did take me about an hour, but that's because this TV is nearly impossible to breach. You'll need heavy duty screwdrivers for prying it open and there are quite a few screws, some hidden. After this experience, however, I would not buy another ViewSonic unless it was a plain monitor. They don't know TVs at all, in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding as a PC monitor and TV, August 14, 2008
By

This review is from: Viewsonic NX2232W 22-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I bought this yesterday on clearance at Office Depot for $191.95 to run with my HP Pavilion a6407c that I bought from Costco refurbished for $379.95. PC Specs: AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ with 3MG Ram running Vista Home Premium with NVIDEA 6150 SE graphics card. I set the PC Video at 1680x1050, highest quality color. I am not a gamer, so I can't address their concerns. But for my purposes (Excel, Word, Internet, e-mail) the PC screen is outstanding. Great clarity, sharpness, adjustability for brightness, contrast, color, etc. Hooked up to PC using standard monitor connector (not DVI/HDMI), then installed the drivers. The CD drivers said they were compatible with Windows XP and earlier Operating Systems, but didn't say if they were Vista-compatible. I was a little worried, and was very pleased that it worked fine with Vista. Don't bother to download Viewsonic's Vista-compatible drivers; they don't work with this monitor. The supplied driver is fine with Vista. I then hooked it up to my Comcast CATV with the old RG-59 coax (no converter box, not HD) and am very pleased with the picture and features including autoscan channel find, ease of deleting unwanted channels, ease of labeling channels, favorite channels, distinguishing between analog and digital channels. I plan to hook it up to my HD box later, and expect the picture will be much better. TV Sound quality is as to be expected from small, built-in speakers; not much bass but speech is OK. Reviewers who complained about this monitor/tv either got a lemon or didn't know how to set it up to get the best picture. BOTTOM LINE: FANTASTIC VALUE FOR UNDER $200! I found nothing else that came even close.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Kitchen TV, January 14, 2008
This review is from: Viewsonic NX2232W 22-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
The picture on this 22" TV is very nice. It is perfect for the kitchen where we have it. We were disappointed in the sound quality, as it is a tad tinney, but the picture is great. We only use it as a televison, and for that is is great. It was very easy to set up and very easy to use. We connected it to our antenna where we get HD channels and those come through beautifully. We also can toggle it to our Satellite service and that comes in well too, though not in HD at this point. The TV came promptly and was packaged well. Good small TV at a very fair price.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing product, February 20, 2008
This review is from: Viewsonic NX2232W 22-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I had high hopes for this as a good (not necessarily excellent) TV and as a very good computer monitor for my office. And I liked that it was considerably less expensive than other comparably sized HDTVs with computer inputs.

Well, I think I got what I paid for. Here are my criticisms in no particular order:

One of the first things I noticed was one bright dead pixel on the LCD screen; that is a deal-breaker in itself - I thought we were past that point with LCD screens.

Overall, the TV picture just was not great. Though, I'll admit I didn't spend a lot of time trying to calibrate it.

There seemed to be a little bit of lip-sync problem with all the sources I tried - DVD, SD, and HD signals. The audio seemed to arrive just a hair before it should have. It wasn't off by much, but it doesn't take much to make this appear unnatural.

It handled small glitches in HDTV signal poorly. Significant chunks of the screen would break up. On other TVs tuned to the same signal, the glitches were present but barely noticeable.

I couldn't adjust my PC to the native resolution of the monitor. This is not really a problem with the monitor itself, but something to be aware of if you are planning to use this as a monitor.

I returned this and purchased a Samsung 23" HDTV with computer input. It cost more than I wanted to spend, but is much better all around than this Viewsonic.

2.0 out of 5 stars TV display is BAD., August 24, 2008
This review is from: Viewsonic NX2232W 22-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I bought this TV after reading some good reviews. I tested it on "Analog" TV, which I had at the time (Comcast). It was quite good. I also tested it as a PC monitor on my Linux computer and it was excellent, despite of exact resolution settings mismatch. Then, I switched to Verizon that delivers only "Digital" format. The TV display became HORRIBLE as noted by other reviews. I do not recommend this TV to anyone... I regret that I did not check "Digital" format at the beginning. That's the problem with this TV. Stay away because "Analog" TV will end on February 2009, not too far away...

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad...Not Great, May 20, 2008

This is more of a television that can double as a monitor and not the other way around. As a monitor it is capable, but does not have the clarity or sharpness of even the value priced flat panel monitors. As a television, it is fairly mediocre, although you do get the full array of component, HDMI, S-Video, and cable coaxial as well as 1080i max resolution and a fully functional on-screen menu system. With a little bit of tweaking, the television picture is pretty darn good despite the fact that when you are viewing the TV from the top angle the picture starts looking like a photo negative...I've never seen that from any TV or monitor before. Also, the TV stand does not tilt nor swivel. With that being said, it is difficult to find a TV/Monitor of this size that offers so much functionality and versatility for this price. It performs exactly how I expected it to. (I added the extra star because of the low price point.)

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible color, bad sound, poor construction, February 24, 2008
By

This review is from: Viewsonic NX2232W 22-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
What a nightmare this TV turned out to be! First, the color is way off. I have adjusted the temperature settings and pushed the tint adjustments as far as possible and it is still just a nightmare. Flesh tones are greenish and sickly, and absolutely no colors render like my other LCD and tube televisions.

The speakers are quite unimpressive, but I was not expecting much there.

The construction is annoying, as the set heats up, it settles, with the cheap plastic constantly ticking as it warms. This happens throughout an entire DVD and is impossible to ignore in my quiet bedroom.

I can't use this thing, I keep it in its box now in hopes Viewsonic will at some point make good.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst TV/Monitor I have Used, April 17, 2008
This review is from: Viewsonic NX2232W 22-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I purchased the HDTV/Monitor with hopes of doing everything from CableTV, PS3, Wii, and PC. It is cool to have all the major inputs along with an HDTV tuner.

However, I am exremely disappointed in the display qaulity. First thing I noticed was the one bright burned out pixel that was anonying as hell. Also, DVDs on the PS3 and watching standard and digital Cable TV looks terrible, and that it not an exaggeration in my opinion. Video has many artifacts, pixelation, and other issues that make watching content from these sources unpleasant.

Video from PS3 "games" looks ok, but not as good as other monitors and TVs I have owned or used. I recently owned an HP W2207H and the quality was outstanding when viewing content on the PS3 including video games and DVDs via an HDMI cable, and looked equally as great viewing content from a PC. The HP monitor displayed text much more crisp, and video was noticable brighter.

I am writing this review to help people avoid buying this inferior HDTV/Monitor. It may seem like a good deal with all the connection inputs such as HDMI and Components, but resist the urge as there are much higher quailty units in the both the TV and PC sections.
