Hardest game ever,
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Viewtiful Joe 2 (Video Game)
I've been playing video games since they first arrived on the scene, and I'm pretty damn good at them. But this game completely kicks my butt. Seriously. That's not exactly a complaint since it's been a long time since I've found a hard game. But jeez, this game may be too tough.
I've never played the original, so this was my first exposure to Joe. It's a fun little concept, and it's fun the way you're powers work. But sometimes I just got frustrated. And there were puzzles I just couldn't work out without a little internet help. In other words, it's easy to get stuck in this game which is a bad thing in a side-scrolling action platformer. The graphics are nothing special and it can be a little repetative. The bosses in particular take just too long to beat. Once you've mastered their pattern, you're stuck repeating yourself for a few more minutes than is really fun. It can sometimes even be a little boring. Fun concept. Fun game. But a little frustrating at times. Thank God there's a kiddie mode, or I'd never finish it.

I was lucky enough to spot this game used in a store. I wasn't in a get it but a friend of mine I was with remarked that he had heard it was good and I remembered seeing an article about it. I am so glad I gave up the chance. This game goes back to the 2-D retro platform or game and makes it fresh and interesting.
You two different heroes you control and between them you're able to slow down times eat up time and do all sorts of movie related attacks. By movie related I mean things like a close-up makes you stronger. The enemies are really good and the backgrounds look great. If you played the first game the mechanics are quite close except that the girlfriend now has more unique attacks. The big change though is that you don't have quite as frustrating experience with lack of save places. The first game was like the mega Man series were you had to fight many of the bosses repeatedly and you had to fight them perfectly because you had to beat them in order. I got so frustrated I nearly smashed my controller with that game, but this one is much more laid back. I don't underestimate it when I say this is one of my all-time favorite PS2 games. Honestly, I can't think of much ways this could be improved. It's truly a shame that the third game in the trilogy was dropped so we'll never get to see the story end. If you have any love of the retro 2-D platformer, then you have to get this game. Quite frankly for the price they are now you should just buy the first one too. You won't regret it.

Viewtiful Joe 2 continues off of Viewtiful Joe. Viewtiful Joe 2 has everything that the first had and this one has some new things that makes the game even more interesting. Got to give a big thanks to Capcom.
