This is an EXCELLENT BOOK,
By
This review is from: The Vigil: 26 Days In Crawford, Texas (All Access) (Paperback)
Well, some reviewers who are warmongers obviously have their agendas and their activists who have not read the books they are reviewing. They are part of the Neo-Con conspiracy to keep the American public in the dark about the truth. I am the author of "Land of Childhood's Fears" - a book about the Vietnam War - (just google the title and see) and so I speak with a bit of authority. This book is very true-to-life. It is a glaring example of the attitude of the current administration - THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT US - THEY NEVER CARED ABOUT ANYTHING BUT THEIR OWN GREED. My Web site has video Documentaries you can download FREE - So before you buy the negative reviews on Cindy Sheehan, learn the TRUTH. Read this book, and my book "Land of Childhood's Fears" which you can also get at Amazon. Take a week to read these two books, and your views about the war in Iraq will drastically change - download the videos from my web site and your entire paradigm structure about the country you live in will change. In the Bible, 2 Peter Chapter 3, it says that in the last days, people are "WILLINGLY IGNORANT". It is a shame that people don't WANT to learn the truth, because what they would have to do to ACT on that truth is unthinkable.

LIKE ANTIGONE CONFRONTING KING CREON, LIKE ELEKTRA IN MOURNING, THIS EPIC DOCUMENT EMERGES AS ETERNAL,

Read this now again. If anything survives the precipitous collapse of the US Empire, this document will, as evidence of one courageous mother who mourned her son sent to die in a meaningless war, like Uriah, and confronted the distracted emperor asking why. Like Antigone seeking honorably to lay her dead to rest, denied by an uncaring king; like the mourning which becomes Elektra. See for instance, those who do not know: Sophokles Elektra (New Directions Paperbook, 683) or Antigone, Oedipus the King, Electra (Oxford World's Classics) or Sophocles I: Oedipus The King, Oedipus at Colonus, Antigone (The Complete Greek Tragedies). Cindy Sheehan is our own Antigone. Read her saga here, her courage, her mourning that others need not mourn their own dead. This document will survive the present fall, as it is universal and eternal, wherever there are mothers, and sons sent to war for no reason. See also for such courageous and unarmed witness such documents as The Time's Discipline: The Eight Beatitudes and Nuclear Resistance. And may God bless Cindy Sheehan.

objective reporting,
This review is from: The Vigil: 26 Days In Crawford, Texas (All Access) (Paperback)
Several of the negative reviews for this book seem politically motivated only and also contain incorrect information. The book, first of all, is not written by Sheehan and she will not profit from sales. Secondly, the book is an accounting of not only the pro-Sheehan Camp Casey but also the pro-Bush/pro-war side of things. It is objective and also contains interviews with some interesting people who were in Crawford, TX last August. The perspectives of the reporters were compelling as well, and one was decidely NOT pro-Sheehan, if you read between the lines. The editor added his comments about the challenges of a small town newspaper with minimal staff taking on the task of covering this event on almost an hourly basis for 26 days. It is a must for journalism classes everywhere.

The Facts....,
By Veretas "J" (Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Vigil: 26 Days In Crawford, Texas (All Access) (Paperback)
We can have a tough time understanding situations from afar. Especially when all we know of them are what we are told. How can we form our own opinions if we are'nt spared the ones who come from vendettas? This book recounts the facts; Why it was important to hold this event, what it meant to the people involved in it, and what it means as an American to sacrifice (at the highest social degree). I am a law student and have learned one thing. This is beaten into our heads to form us as future administers of justice; Look at the facts, view the law (or in this case your morals and ethics) and form your own opinion. We must be given a factual account of the important events that build our country. This book does just that, and I thank all who were involved.

Knowledgeable and Informative,
This review is from: The Vigil: 26 Days In Crawford, Texas (All Access) (Paperback)
The book tells the story of what actually transpired. The author portrays the situation in a manner that allows one to feel like they were actually there on those days. I like to be able to read a book that allows the reader to formulate their own opinion of the situation instead of being forced into the authors opinion. W.Leon Smith allows the reader to get a very detailed insight into the protest without taking sides. I was impressed with the fact that there was only facts in this book and now a days that is rare occassion. I will keep this book on my shelf and recommend this book to anyone that is willing to allow the truth and facts in their lives instead of someone elses opinion.

Reading this book was an amazing experience, it really puts you in the middle of everything that was happening at Camp Casey. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. This event will go down in history, and The Vigil will always be recognized as the source for everything you want to know about it.

I want the truth, too.,
By Ralph Bernardo (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Vigil: 26 Days In Crawford, Texas (All Access) (Paperback)
I would ask Mr. Bold the very same questions that David Letterman asked Bill O'Reilly: "How can you possibly take exception with the motivation and the position of someone like Cindy Sheehan?" and "Have you lost family members in armed conflict?" Well, Bill said no to that question, and Dave offered that no one can speak for Cindy Sheehan except Cindy Sheehan. Read this book. Find out what happened down there in Texas when all Ms. Sheehan wanted to do was ask a simple question - why? When the truth was revealed that no WMDs existed in Iraq, numerous after-the-fact rationalizations were manufactured by the administration to save face.Want to cut through all the bull? Want reporting by folks who were down there in Texas and live there all year 'round? Read the book. Fact is, the Kerry endorsement was the first time the local Crawford paper that pens this book ever went against a Republican. One would guess they had a good reason to. The foreword by Cindy Sheehan is well worth the price of admission alone. Honest, on-the-ground reporting by folks who were there from day one is surely needed in the 24 around-the-clock cable news frenzy of the present day. With all that airtime, the events and personalities described in detail in this book were not reported. Read the book. Find out the truth. And please stop bashing mothers who lose their sons and daughters to war. There was a time in this country when these people got the respect they deserve.

If you won't read the book, don't write a review,

In order to provide more validity to this review of "The Vigil: 26 Days In Crawford, Texas" than Mr. Bold's effort, I'll say this:This is a book worth having for historical significance alone in this time of turmoil and division for America. Mr. Bold, thank you for pointing out your lack of objectivity. How was the book? I didn't get a sense of it. I did, however, get a sense of your political position. Mr. Bold's "review" should be taken down, because it isn't one. It does not meet Amazon's review guidelines, which include that it "should focus on the book's content and context". As for its quality, since it does not address the subject, it doesn't rise to the level of a "best review". A review "should not include ... spiteful remarks", yet Mr. Bold does when he calls a grieving mother and leader of a national peace movement a "nut". Now, this review also does not meet the review guidelines. If it stays, so should the audacious Mr. Bold's: if it's not published, Mr. Bold's should be removed too. When the guidelines are breached, the rules should be applied impartially.

very bad read. Cindy should go back and take and english class. Facts given in book contradict facts published by the wire services AP AFP Reuters, and if you search local texas blogs the disconnect gets scary. I'd call her a mediawhore but I would have to apologize to whores.

This review is from: The Vigil: 26 Days In Crawford, Texas (All Access) (Paperback)
Cindy Sheehan had every mothers worst nightmare come true. We are "supposed" to be a country of freedom of speech, that includes camping on even a presidents near by lawn. With this in mind i was glad i read this account of Cindy's 26 days. I found that Mr. Smith had told the story very clear and showed great insight to those around at "Camp Casey" .
