#1 KINDLE BESTSELLER in VIGILANTE JUSTICE!

". . . hits you like a hook to the liver, and addresses the timeless issues of murder, revenge, and the human yearning for justice . . . a witty thriller, full of passion and suspense . . . virtually impossible to put down."  - John Locke, New York Times best-selling author

 Montreal . . . the long, hot summer of 1996. . .

. . . and in the dark of night, moving like a shadowy wraith, a vigilante prowls the city's streets.

The targets of his bloody rampage: the worst of the worst.

Murderers. Gangbangers. Rapists.

Six months. Sixteen murders. The harried police are still without a clue . . .

. . . until the day they receive an email from the assassin himself.

Lieutenant Dave McCall, head of Montreal's Special Homicide Task Force, needs help to crack the secrets of the killer's taunting message. He calls on an expert--Chris Barry, who runs a security firm specializing in computer communications.

Together, McCall and Barry launch a grim quest to track down a man who preys on predators--an urgent quest to bring this remorseless killer to justice.

But whose justice will prevail: theirs--or the vigilante's?

". . . probably the best mystery/thriller book I have ever read . . . The last sentence made me shiver with delight." - Tiffany A. Harkleroad, "Tiffany's Bookshelf"

"A great thriller!" - Dean Lappi, author, Black Numbers

Editorial Reviews

Review

Taut, Witty Thriller: From the opening scene, Claude Bouchard's Vigilante hits you like a hook to the liver, and addresses the timeless issues of murder, revenge, and the human yearning for justice. Vigilante is the type of book you read after locking the doors and checking the closets. It's a witty thriller, full of passion and suspense, and as others have said, virtually impossible to put down. Claude Bouchard guides you step by step through a seamy, dangerous world, while never allowing you to lose hope. As others have said, the ending is excellent. But don't get hung up wondering about it as you read, for Vigilante is a seven-course meal, and each portion is a feast to be savored. Five Stars! - John Locke - NYT Best-selling author - March 11, 2011

"
This book grabs you by the throat and pulls you into it from the very beginning." - Youngblood Hawke - Author of 'The Coven Conspiracy'

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mystery! May 12, 2011
Format:Paperback
A serial killer is stalking Montreal during the summer of 1996. But most people show little concern for stopping him. The reason is, this killer only kills the bad guys. Criminals, deadbeat, pimps, punks, rapists, drug dealers, that is who this vigilante killer is after. And while at times the police force feel these lowlifes get justice, they must find the person responsible for these killings. When the cops team up with a high tech computer security firm, several interesting suspects are brought to light.

I have to say, this is probably the best mystery/thriller book I have ever read, and I am now hungry for more books in this series! First off, I will say the character development was superb. There are several main characters involved in the storyline, and each one is developed in their own time and pacing, as is relevant to the story. I felt like I really knew the characters well, and was certain I had the mystery solved.

The mystery aspect of the plot is so incredibly well written. There are, like any good mystery, some red herrings thrown in, and done so skillfully that I was completely duped, thinking I was so smart for figuring out so early into the story who the killer actually was. The ending, and the reveal of the killer's identity hit me like a ton of bricks, as I never expected it. The last sentence of the book made me shiver with delight.

If more mysteries were this well written, I could become a full time mystery reader. Absolutely fabulous story, one that had me up in the middle of the night reading, just to find out if my hunch was true.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy Smokes, I'm Hooked! Send me the next book. August 29, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this book because I was curious about the writing of Claude Bouchard. I had no idea what to expect and I was hooked at the prologue. This well written suspense novel should be on the shelves of every fiction reader that I know. From the character development to the great scene descriptions, I could easily visualize each place and character. This would make a great movie. Can't wait to get my next book in the series....back to shopping now....

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth a Look March 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Bad guys are getting the axe, and Detective Dave McCall enlists the support of computer genius Chris Barry to hunt down the eponymous Vigilante.

It's a pretty straight-forward idea for a book, and it makes for a good story with some vivid characters.

However, the prose is clumsy, the narrative is at times murky and the surprise ending doesn't completely satisfy.

It's not a bad first novel, but it's not exactly a masterwork.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too many flaws September 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The book starts off with an interesting premise and then beats it to death (pun intended.) There are many situations that make absolutely no sense whatsoever. Very, very strange indeed. The grammar is bad. The use of the word "anyways" is like fingernails on a chalkboard and used 3 times on one page in some instances. The "twist" makes very little sense. This was the first of three I downloaded by this author. I deleted the next two.

5.0 out of 5 stars Electronic Pulp Fiction October 15, 2012
By LnBen
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I stumbled upon this series by pleasant accident. The book was one of many featured on a 'free' today on Kindle ad. I figured...what do I have to lose? What I lost was the next six hours. What a great series opener.

A Vigilante is striking all over the Montreal area. Twenty kills and counting. Lieutenant Dave McCall of the special homicide unit is running out of clues. In desperation he asks for help from cyber crimes investigator Chris Barry.

The twists ant turns in this mystery are masterfully written. It is such a fantastic ending that this reviewer wouldn't dream of giving out a spoiler. But trust me, everyone turns out to be a suspect and everyone is vindicated.

I know the series has been around since 2009 and I am a late arrival; but if you by chance read this review take it to heart. If you like old fashioned mysteries with plenty of plot and plenty of action...READ THIS BOOK 5 well earned stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars Thanks goodness for Amazon Prime lending library December 9, 2012

Format:Kindle Edition
Otherwise I would have been angry that I spent any money on this at all. I don't see how this gets over 100 4+ reviews. It was badly written, the characters were not well developed, and the police work (where there was any) was laughable. I also suspected the twist at the end. I was not left wanting more.

1.0 out of 5 stars How can the reviews be real? December 2, 2012
By Giulia
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I downloaded this as a free download for Kindle based on the high reviews. Since it was free, I didn't expect much: but the book was even worse than anticipated. It reads as if it were written by an enthusiastic high school student (poor grammar, repetitive sentences, limited vocabulary, predictable and flawed plot elements, shallow characters, etc) and the "twist at the end" was obvious from the start. The female characters epitomize the lack of depth of the work (reflecting in a concrete way the fact that most of them are only referred to as nameless "wives" who appear in brief flashes as inhabitants of the male characters' homes). I kept reading despite myself because, after all, it was free, and I hoped that what seemed so obvious might prove to be false--but sadly, the outcome was as anticipated. It is the kind of book where you predict the final line (literally, the final line) about halfway through the story. Now, I almost never respond to what I read with reviews, but the fact that this book has such a large proportion of 5-star ratings bothered me because I can't imagine that all of those ratings are legitimate when this is clearly an amateur work. That's not to say it doesn't have value as the work of an amateur--but it certainly does not deserve anything close to top ratings. If I had seen this book when it was first written, I'd have suggested the author submit it to a professional for serious editing, or not publish it at all. Perhaps his writing has improved since this one: but now I will never know because, after having read "Vigilante", I am not going to be reading any more by this author.

This book is relatively well written. The development of the characters is sufficient for relevance to the story. I will read another book in the series.

More About the Author

I was born in Montreal, Canada, at a very young age, where I still live with my spouse, Joanne, under the watchful eye of Krystalle and Midnight, two black females of the feline persuasion. In a former life, I completed my studies at McGill University and worked in various management capacities for a handful of firms for countless years. From there, considering my extensive background in human resources and finance, it was a logical leap in my career path to stay home and write crime thrillers.

My first stab at writing was actually in 1995, the result being my first novel, "Vigilante". Two others of the same series followed by 1997 but all three remained dormant until publication in 2009. Since, besides writing a stand-alone, five other thrillers have joined the VIGILANTE series. I also penned "Something's Cooking", a faux-erotica parody and cookbook under the pseudonyms Réal E. Hotte and Dasha Sugah. I have to say, I'm enjoying this writing gig.

Other interests besides writing and subtly persuading people to buy my books include reading, making noise with my six guitars, painting (oil and watercolour), cooking (year round though I love the grill in the summer), traveling and planning to work out soon. I've also been known to sleep on occasion.

You can visit my website at claudebouchardbooks.com which is almost as fun as DisneyLand and absolutely free.
