Editorial Reviews

Review

Taut, Witty Thriller: From the opening scene, Claude Bouchard's Vigilante hits you like a hook to the liver, and addresses the timeless issues of murder, revenge, and the human yearning for justice. Vigilante is the type of book you read after locking the doors and checking the closets. It's a witty thriller, full of passion and suspense, and as others have said, virtually impossible to put down. Claude Bouchard guides you step by step through a seamy, dangerous world, while never allowing you to lose hope. As others have said, the ending is excellent. But don't get hung up wondering about it as you read, for Vigilante is a seven-course meal, and each portion is a feast to be savored. Five Stars! - John Locke - NYT Best-selling author - March 11, 2011

"
This book grabs you by the throat and pulls you into it from the very beginning." - Youngblood Hawke - Author of 'The Coven Conspiracy'

About the Author

I was born in Montreal, Canada, where I still reside with my spouse, Joanne. I completed my studies in human resources, accounting and management at McGill University and worked in various management capacities in the fields of HR and finance for a handful of firms for what seemed like decades, because it was. I should also mention I love pizza, but who doesn't and, in my opinion, nothing rocks more than cooking on the grill.

My first stab at writing was in 1995, the result being my first novel, Vigilante. This was subsequently followed by The Consultant (1996) and Mind Games (1997), all of the same series.

Professional obligations and other creative interests led me away from writing for a number of years but I found myself busy at the keyboard in 2009 with The Homeless Killer after having finally published my first three novels. I then followed up with 6 Hours 42 Minutes in 2011, also part of the VIGILANTE Series born from Vigilante. In July 2011, I released ASYLUM, my first stand-alone novel and Discreet Activities, my sixth VIGILANTE Series crime thriller was published in January 2012. In October 2012, I penned and released Something's Cooking, a faux-erotica parody and cookbook under the pseudonyms Réal E. Hotte and Dasha Sugah. My eighth novel and seventh installment of the VIGILANTE series, Femme Fatale, was released in late February 2013. I think I'm really starting to like this writing thing.

Besides writing, editing and promoting my work, I also spend some artistic energy with my five guitars, oil paints and watercolours. Other passions include cooking (big time with fine wine to go with it, of course), reading, traveling and working out just enough to stay fit. It should also be noted that following several years of practice, I now excel at being cat furniture for Krystalle and Midnight, or so they tell me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mystery! May 12, 2011
Format:Paperback
A serial killer is stalking Montreal during the summer of 1996. But most people show little concern for stopping him. The reason is, this killer only kills the bad guys. Criminals, deadbeat, pimps, punks, rapists, drug dealers, that is who this vigilante killer is after. And while at times the police force feel these lowlifes get justice, they must find the person responsible for these killings. When the cops team up with a high tech computer security firm, several interesting suspects are brought to light.

I have to say, this is probably the best mystery/thriller book I have ever read, and I am now hungry for more books in this series! First off, I will say the character development was superb. There are several main characters involved in the storyline, and each one is developed in their own time and pacing, as is relevant to the story. I felt like I really knew the characters well, and was certain I had the mystery solved.

The mystery aspect of the plot is so incredibly well written. There are, like any good mystery, some red herrings thrown in, and done so skillfully that I was completely duped, thinking I was so smart for figuring out so early into the story who the killer actually was. The ending, and the reveal of the killer's identity hit me like a ton of bricks, as I never expected it. The last sentence of the book made me shiver with delight.

If more mysteries were this well written, I could become a full time mystery reader. Absolutely fabulous story, one that had me up in the middle of the night reading, just to find out if my hunch was true.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy Smokes, I'm Hooked! Send me the next book. August 29, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this book because I was curious about the writing of Claude Bouchard. I had no idea what to expect and I was hooked at the prologue. This well written suspense novel should be on the shelves of every fiction reader that I know. From the character development to the great scene descriptions, I could easily visualize each place and character. This would make a great movie. Can't wait to get my next book in the series....back to shopping now....

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth a Look March 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Bad guys are getting the axe, and Detective Dave McCall enlists the support of computer genius Chris Barry to hunt down the eponymous Vigilante.

It's a pretty straight-forward idea for a book, and it makes for a good story with some vivid characters.

However, the prose is clumsy, the narrative is at times murky and the surprise ending doesn't completely satisfy.

It's not a bad first novel, but it's not exactly a masterwork.
