4.0 out of 5 stars Vigilante Witch Hunter, September 12, 2009
This review is from: Vigilante Witch Hunter (Paperback)
Melissa is a fortune teller who can see anyone she touches future and past making it hard to maintain relationships. But when she meets the man of her dreams that all changes as they begin a series of adventures that entangle them with love, a vigilante, and the mob.

I enjoyed this book. It definetely had its ups and downs, but i found the writting style to be a pretty good flow and pace. Gonna have to check out the first book and eagerly awaiting the third.

3.0 out of 5 stars Book 2, April 24, 2009
This review is from: Vigilante Witch Hunter (Paperback)
Melissa has the gift of fortune telling, as did her late mother. While on vacation she meets Karen. They become friends; however, Melissa tries to keep a distance between them because she knows Karen has no future. Keeping Karen ignorant of her impending doom, Melissa and her boyfriend, Richard, try to make Karen's remaining time happy. It turns out that Richard also has the gift. Unable to read each other, Melissa and Richard find themselves falling in love.

Richard knows Melissa is a nice woman, but he also knows about Stephen. Melissa often tells Stephen about evil people she comes across during her fortune telling. Stephen terminates these bad people, for the good of the world of course. Richard and Melissa wed. Richard is hired as a private stock investor. Problem is that the people he signs on with knows about his paranormal ability to pick the correct stocks to invest in and when to sell them. Richard and Melissa find themselves in deep trouble.

*** This is the sequel to "Memoirs of a Fortune Teller". It is obvious that the author has become better in his writing talent. The plot is much deeper, though it takes a long while to really begin. There is still not enough narration, in my opinion, and too much chatter. There are sub-plots as well, so the pace never slows down too much. There does not seem to be any editing and this caused me a problem more than a few times. But again, the author has improved in a major way and I do not doubt he will only get better. ***

3.0 out of 5 stars Melissa touches someone and knows the evil they have committed, April 11, 2009
This review is from: Vigilante Witch Hunter (Paperback)
Vigilant Witch Hunter is a sequel to Memoirs of A Fortune Teller. I read/reviewed Memoirs of A Fortune Teller about a month ago, so I was familiar with Gary Turcotte's writing style. The story line continues. Melissa has inherited her mother's gift of fortune telling. She teamed up with Stephen a vigilante to find her mother's killer. Melissa touches someone and knows the evil they have committed. She shares the information with Stephen. He makes the perpetrator pay for their sins. Occasionally, he lets them off with a beating, but usually it leads to death.
In the sequel, Melissa is still working with Stephen, righting wrongs. When Stephen introduces her to Richard his stockbroker, they become fast friends. Richard is a gifted financial forecaster. They care about each other and want to live a normal life
This book stands well alone. However, the first book is short and interesting, so I advise you to read it. I liked the first book better than Vigilant Witch Hunter. The dialogue in Vigilant Witch Hunter stiff and never flows smoothly. The errors are too many to overlook. While the plot is not top notch and had great potential, it falls short of the mark.

2.0 out of 5 stars The sequel is not as good as the first story, March 17, 2009
This review is from: Vigilante Witch Hunter (Paperback)
The author of "Memoirs of a Fortune Teller," Gary Turcotte, brings us the sequel in "Vigilante Witch Hunter." Near the end of the first book, Mary Ann, the main character, passed on her fortune-telling abilities to her daughter, Melissa, after Mary Ann's untimely death. Because she then had the gift, Melissa knew her mother had been murdered. She partnered with Stephen, a vigilante with a penchant for killing people he thought didn't deserve to live. Together, they revenged her mother's death (but they didn't get caught).

In this sequel, Melissa is still involved with Stephen. They have developed a more sordid relationship; when Melissa does a reading of someone she feels is evil, she passes on the information to Stephen, who finds creative and natural-looking ways for these people to die. He seems to be a very good killer, as he doesn't get caught and his penchant for murder increases.

Melissa also develops a relationship with a new man, Richard, who is a friend of Stephen's. Richard is also a fortune-teller, as was his father. Melissa and Richard have a whirlwind romance and marry shortly after they meet. They don't live happily ever after, though, as the story line gets complicated and dramatic just before the wedding.

As with the original book, the dialogue between characters in this sequel is quite unnatural and stilted at times, the passive verb tense is used much too often, and the text is rife with misspellings and grammatical errors. As a writer, a published author, and an editor, I find that very distracting. Although the first book had its share of grammatical errors, the story flowed smoothly in most places and it was an easy-read. The storyline for the sequel is far less believable than the original story and is not as well-written. I give it only 2 stars.
