5.0 out of 5 stars Want to know how much smart media cards can hold?
Here is general guidline of about how many pictures a smart media card can hold. This list was made up using a 2.1 mega pixel camera at 1600x1200 resolution. (The Fuji Finepix 2300). So if you have a higher mega pixel camera the amount of pictures it can hold will decrease and you will be able to hold a few more pictures with a lower mega pixel model. But these numbers...

1.0 out of 5 stars Incompatibility without software upgrade
I purchased a Viking 64 Meg Smart Media card for use in my Olympus D-150 camera. It worked fine in the camera but when I went to transfer the photos to my computer via my FlashPoint Floppy Disk Adapter, the Smart Media card was not even recognized. Hence, I could not transfer the photos into my computer. My other Smart Media cards (Olympus and SanDisk) did not have this...

But these numbers will give you a basic idea so you will know what capacity of smart media card is for you. (1600x1200 resolution) Example: Listed is the card capacity with the amount of photos it can hold in the camera's Fine (best mode), Normal, and Basic photo modes. (Fine,Normal,Basic)

8 MB (9,19,39) 16 MB (19,39,75) 32 MB (40,82,155) 64 MB (82,170,330) 128 MB (168,350,700)

*Most camera's normal mode takes pictures of good enough quality for most photos you will take, unless the camera is under 1.3 mega pixels.

*Many cameras come with a 8MB memory card. But that usually isn't enough memory for most people, here is what I would suggest purchasing:

My suggestions:

1-1.9 mega pixel camera - 8MB or 16 MB

2-2.9 mega pixel camera - 32 MB

3 mega pixels and up - 64 MB

It is what it is, and it does what it does. 64 meg add-in for my Rio 500. More songs, no hassles. Plug in, format, go. 'nuff said!

4.0 out of 5 stars 1000 PICS in a match book that is as thin as a dime !, June 14, 2000
This review is from: Viking 64 MB SmartMedia Card (SSFDC3/64) (Personal Computers)
This card enables me to take about 1000 pictures (at the lowest resolution) with my Olympus 460. This is the largest smartmedia card you can currently buy and only has one minor draw back. The panorama feature is not available on Olympus cameras that have a panorama feature since this is not an Olympus brand card. Over all this is a great product. With such a high data capacity card as smartmedia USB reader is almost a must. I can download the 64 MB that are on this card in under 2 Minutes with a USB reader. Before with the serial connection that came with my camera it took (or felt like) hours! This is also the cheaper of the 2 64MB Smartmedia currently on amazon now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked Right Out of the Box, May 5, 2001

I have an Olympus D490 digital camera. I bought this Viking Smart Media card because it was the best price that I found for a 64MB card. The Olympus manual said that I probably would have to format non-Olympus brand cards. But this one worked right out of the box, with no formatting necessary. I am able to store over 600 SQ quality or about 128 HQ quality pictures on this card at one time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for MP3 Players, September 14, 2000

Although another card was listed as the accessory, it was back ordered. I did some looking around and found out that this card is actually a lot better price per megabyte compared to the 32MB version.

This card allows me to have an extra one full hour of CD Quality music for my RIO MP3 player. It is very dependable and the price is well worth the extra half hour of music.

Until they come out with a 128MB smart media card (still months down the road), this is the best one on the market.

Got a FujiFilm MX1200 Digital Camera recently. It came with 4MB smartmedia card. Highest recomended value of card from the Owners manual was 32MB, got the 64MB and tried it out. It works a treat. Where before I could store 9 images at normal res I can now store 180. Format takes a blink of an eye. I have to get some sort of reader for it as a serial connection downloading 180 images will take an age. I will buy a 2nd one for when I go on vacation.

I was a little nervous that the 64 meg smartmedia would work in my Diamond Rio 500. The firmwear upgrade from Rio works perfectly although the installation instructions didn't exactly match the install procedure. It was simple enough to figure out and now I enjoy almost 2 hours of music. Well worth the price.

The price is REALLY good! And it works like a charm with my Finepix 40i which needed a smartmedia with ID for storing of mp3 files besides the digital photos.

5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD PRODUCT FOR DIGITAL CAMERA, December 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Viking 64 MB SmartMedia Card (SSFDC3/64) (Personal Computers)
Well, here's my two cents. I just got an Olympus C-2100 10X zoom lens camera for Christmas. Before getting the card, the best I could get at 2.1 megapixel resolution was about 15 frames or a 23 second video. After getting the 64 MB card, I can now get 128 frames or a 3 minute video. The cards are worth it, especially if you want to roam freely without having to go back to your laptop or PC to download all the time, and if you have the money and the inclination, 64 MB is better than 32 MB or 16 MB.
