Product Description

A fierce struggle is taking place within Asgard, the realm of the Norse Gods. The battle has escalated, spilling over to the mortal world of Midgard and now a Champion must be found, a Warrior than can sway this war that threatens the fate of Asgard and the Gods themselves.

The goddess Hel – daughter of Loki, Norse God of mischief, has been banished from the heavenly kingdom of Asgard for defying Odin’s rule. Angry at her fate, she seeks to release the ancient wolf-god Fenrir which legend tells will bring about Ragnarok - the apocalyptic battle that will destroy Asgard and the Gods. With her army of resurrected Viking warriors, Hel marches on the unsuspecting mortal realm of Midgard.

Odin’s daughter Freya, goddess of love and wisdom, is appointed the task of stopping Hel and defending the future of mankind. For her champion she chooses Skarin, a great but troubled young warrior, ignorant of the true reason for his favour with the Gods and thrust into the midst of their bitter war.

As Skarin, players will experience unparalleled battle scenes, leading the charge in a titanic clash between powerful gods and mere men. War on an unprecedented scale will rage across a beautifully realised Viking landscape.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun Game Ruined by Controller Support (or lack thereof) November 23, 2012
    Verified Purchase
Played Viking: Battle for Asgard on my Xbox 360, and for some reason the game really clicked with me. When I saw the PC port, I thought I'd get it to play through again with the updated graphics, but unfortunately it seems the PC port was half-baked.

Annoyingly, the game starts up with a screen that says something along the lines of "Best Played with a Controller" and has a picture of the Xbox 360 controller on screen, but the controls aren't mapped properly. While playing, the game has a big Xbox controller-style "B" floating over a character's head, but hitting "B" on the controller makes the character jump like an idiot; they key I need to hit to interact with the character winds up to be "Y". Other places are like that as well -- hit "X" when prompts say to hit "A", etc.

Switching over to using they keyboard doesn't really help matters either -- the floating Xbox-style "A", "B", "X", "Y" buttons appear, and not the far-more-helpful keyboard equivalents.

Wouldn't recommend unless they patch the game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Suprisingly Fun. December 9, 2012
I got this game included in the total war bundle otherwise I may have never gotten it all. Now I have played a lot of games in the hack and slash category and this one plays very similarly but does a few things differently there is plenty of gore and I have heard people call it a button masher but that is just at the beginning of the game which I didn't care for and almost gave up, but I continued playing I am really glad I did cause it turned out to be a really fun game with the huge battles from building up an army and there is some strategy involved in combat which works great if you button mash the same button or take the direct approach every time you will die a lot, depending on your enemy determines what kind of attacks you use. There is some stealth involved in this game and it works pretty well. The environments are huge and look good but the graphics are a little outdated, the characters look better and there is some nice weather effects. As for the controls well I never use a mouse and keyboard for these kinds of games so get a 360 or other controller or just don't play these kinds of games on a PC. Overall it's not quite as good as the AAA games but it comes really close and is a lot of fun so if you can get it for like 10 bucks or less I highly recommend it and be sure to give it a chance if you don't like it at first like I did.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Vikings!!! January 27, 2013

I really enough viking games and this one gave a good Viking lore, I wish it was more of the pillaging of Europe but I guess this will do. Your starting movement is slow but once in battle you move very quick with your attacks. Definately, worth buying if you like Vikings and Viking lore.
