5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product for the Laptop User, July 21, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Viking 64 MB CompactFlash Card with Adapter (CF64M-ADAPT) (Personal Computers)
I have been very happy with my CF64M-ADAPT from Viking Components. I purchased two of the cards (one for my PDA and the other for my digital camera) from Amazon.

I use one card to transfer information from my PDA to my laptop. It is extremely fast because I can use the included adapter to plug my compact flash 64MB directly into my PCMCIA port. Very convenient.

I use the other card to transfer images from my digital camera to my laptop by, again using the included adapter, plugging it directly into the PC Card slot.

The versatility of the product is greatly enhanced when I use it to transfer files from my laptop to my desktop (I also purchased an Intelliflash reader). As many of you know, most imaging files (or at least the group of files you want) are larger than what can fit on a floppy disk. This product fits the task perfectly by simply dragging and dropping the files from the laptop (or visa versa) to the compact flash card then swapping the card.

A definite must buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent deal for digicam/laptop users, April 21, 2001

This review is from: Viking 64 MB CompactFlash Card with Adapter (CF64M-ADAPT) (Personal Computers)
I was looking for a spare Compact Flash memory card to use with my Nikon 990 and IBM ThinkPad. The cost per megabyte for the Viking CF64M-ADAPT is good, but the real star is the included Compact Flash Adapter.

I had been using a Sandisk Parallel port adapter, which works reliably. But when I plugged the my memory card into the Viking PCMCIA adapter, then plugged it into my laptop running Windows 2000, it was recognized straight away. Not only that, but the performance just blows away the parallel port adapter. Now I can load 10 MB of pictures in seconds instead of minutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars must buy with your digital camera, November 21, 2000

fyi, with my canon S100 digital elph at normal fine photo quality, this 64mb cf card stores about 108 photos. on my dell laptop with NT and Linux, both OSes recognize the adapter. on NT, I had to install the Softex PC card controller program downloaded from support.dell.com. After it's installed the Viking adapter becomes a hot swappable removable drive. On Linux, cardmgr recognizes the adapter, and fdisk recognizes it as FAT12. However, the default kernel doesn support FAT12, so you'd need to compile the support in yourself (2.2.17 is what I'm using).

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Value, June 20, 2001

This 64 MByte CF card is a great value since it includes the CF to PCMCIA card adaptor. Many other CF manufacturers want this much for the CF card alone! I bought this CF card for use with a new Canon S-110 for storage of high-res photos. But I also use it for storing MP3 files in my Casio Pocket PC, and now with the PCMCIA adaptor I can use it in my laptop too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive Compact Flash Memory and Adapter ..., September 27, 2001

Viking makes a good reliable product, at the lower (value) end of the price scale, making it a good purchase value. I use it on a digital camera, and transport it to a laptop. Also makes a good replacement high-capacity floppy disk between laptops. Why should I pay 2x as much for more well-known CF memory when Viking probably manufacturers it? Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, and a little 'lagniappe' to boot., August 11, 2001

I use CompactFlash for most of my digital cameras, and I've become a fan of the Viking brand. However, I still buy by the dollar-per-meg calculation. Currently, this number should always be less than 1. It is curious that the prices on these cards may fluctuate by as much as 20% in one day! I suggest you find the card you want and track it a while. This particular card comes with a great extra at no extra charge: it includes an adapter for your laptop's type II/III slot, a nice touch. [BTW, 'lagniappe' is N'awlins for 'a little extra')

5.0 out of 5 stars A great addition to the ipaq pocket pc, December 11, 2000
This review is from: Viking 64 MB CompactFlash Card with Adapter (CF64M-ADAPT) (Personal Computers)
This is a great addition to an ipaq. You can have loads of mpeg movies and mp3s this card is amazing. This card is about the best for your money. Unless you NEED or have the money to throw away you should not get the 128 card, dont get anything smaller or bigger than this card you will regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product but who really needs it?, January 1, 2001

I bought this product for my Dell and it has great picture and sound quality and runs CD-rom 3D games as good as any. I don't know why I bought a 64 MB cause nobody really needs that much, but it's kind of worth it. If your a gamer who is looking for exceptional speed and crisp sound and clear movies on your computer, then you should really check this out.

It's a great gift for a computer wiz since they can always use a upgrade :-)
