5.0 out of 5 stars Good Solid Digital Card... No Complaints.

I go out I take tons of pictures I come home and download the pictures from my Kodak 5MP camera into my computer for editing before I have them printed out. This card never disappoints and holds tons of pictures. I liked the quality and storage of their 128KB and 512KB version so much when I wanted more space I had to pick the 1 GB version. I trusted the quality...

3.0 out of 5 stars Is it really fast enough ?
The technical data for this product on Amazon mentions "Write Speed" of "50X". Which translates to 7.5Mbps, sounds too good to be true. Check it out on buy.com - they mention write speed of 1.2Mbps - that is just 8X. That makes me wonder if it's gonna work with videop shooting on digital cameras. Also, no mention of speed for other Viking SD cards (256M/ 512M) on amazon!

I trusted the quality of this brand of card so much I brought 2 1 GB cards and they did not disappoint me. The cards both work like a charm. The pictures are fine. The camera writes to the card quickly. The card formats in almost no time at all.

The 1 GB card exceeds my photograph needs. I am no photographer just an old disabled dude with a love of taking pictures. These 1 GB cards are so big I can concentrate on taking the highest quality pictures my camera supports and not worry about how much space I have left. These Cards offer freedom of expression because they let you get into tune with and become one with your art instead of worrying about silly things like space remaining. I think everyone should buy these cards because, having all the space is a very liberating experience and it fosters using your camera as a tool of exploration to capture moments in this fleeting thing we call human reality which is as it should be!

Slip about six of these puppies into your pocket and you can go out for a day shooting everything in sight that strikes your photographic fancy. By and Enjoy these digital cards, I sure do!

4.0 out of 5 stars Acceptable speed with enough space, January 30, 2006
This review is from: Viking Components SD1GB 1 GB Secure Digital Card (Personal Computers)
Acceptable speed with enough space for this SD card,
Viking's card is reliable and affordable. Never fail to deliver.
recommended, also I only recommend cards that are below 1GB,
since the bigger the capacity, the fast speed it needed to
provide the flexibility. i.e., bigger size, you need faster speed
to bring performance to the max in your Digital Cameras.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap!, March 1, 2006
This review is from: Viking Components SD1GB 1 GB Secure Digital Card (Personal Computers)
I purchased this card based solely on 2 facts: It's 1GB and it's cheap. Overall I'm satisfied with my purchase. It's an SD card... how much can you say besides, "It works in my camera," and "The data doesn't get corrupted." For most people this card will be more than enough for their camera. The only reason I can ever forsee needing a more expensive card is in the case of those wishing to use this card in a digital SLR. I have a Nikon D50 and while using it in burst to take RAW quality pictures at the largest size the card lags behind a lot because of it's slow write time. This is only a minor issue though and most people would never notice since most all in one digitals process slower than can be written on to the card. For those who do have DSLRs I wouldn't write this card off either, especially since you can almost buy 2 for the price of one high speed card. Unless you need to do a continuous burst of more than 4-8 shots (being all that most DSLR buffers can handle before they have to write to the card) you'll never notice any difference.

PS- I noticed this a while ago but failed to mention it above, the card (as of Feb 05) wasn't manufactured by Viking but rather TOSHIBA which is stamped right on the under side of the card right above the "Made in Japan" stamp. So if comes down to brand here is a little more insight, hope it helps.

I have a 4 Megapixel camera. And with normal compression and the full 4 MP, I get 1067 picture per card. Pretty cool. With the rebate, the price a paid was even cooler (much better than what I can find locally). I have had no problems with using the card/takeing pictures/transfering files. I do have a separate card reader and MediaRecover, should I have problems, but I haven't had any yet (three months and counting).

This 1G card cost me only $60 - a fraction of what other brands charge for a card of same memory. It works very fast - I use it for my pocket pc primarily for storing and watching full-length movies. I've never had problems with it, such as have the card freeze or movie skip because of the absense of "fast-read" function.
It might not work well with a digital camera when you want to take a long video (try an SD card with a fast flash option). Othersiwe, it works perfect with my pentax camera for taking regular pictures.

I also own this brand in 512M and 256M. Don't forget to format it before you use it!

4.0 out of 5 stars 1 Gig SD Card is a life saver!!, September 29, 2005
This review is from: Viking Components SD1GB 1 GB Secure Digital Card (Personal Computers)
I am not a tech guru, nor am I a savvy electronics expert, so when I bought my first digital camera I had to increase my learning curve tremdously. Not knowing what kind of memory needs I would encounter as I learned the capabilities and features of my camera, I was misled into purchasing a 256MB SD card along with the camera. Lo and behold, I was much more of an active camera user than anticipated. I feel that the 1 Gig SD card did the job!!! It was shipped right on time for my friend's wonderful wedding and I still had room for weeks and weeks of other activities to be captured. Thanks again Amazon!!

I purchased this card to use in the Nikon D50 camera I purchased. It was discounted when purchased with a digital camera. Works well, but if you are getting a camera that can handle the high-speed memory cards, I would recommend that. I have other devices which use the SD card, so it was a good deal for me.
