5.0 out of 5 stars This is an excellent hand mixer
I recently purchased this mixer. I love it. It is very powerful but also the low speed works well & it didn't throw food all over my kitchen. The 2 sets of beaters are stainless steel, the hand crank cord winder worked well & the plastic body is easy to clean.

1.0 out of 5 stars Discontinuing Counter top products
I was going to buy one of Vikings mixers but noticed that the product was labeled as being in transition on their website. I called them and they said they are discontinuing their counter top products like this mixer....

I recently purchased this mixer. I love it. It is very powerful but also the low speed works well & it didn't throw food all over my kitchen. The 2 sets of beaters are stainless steel, the hand crank cord winder worked well & the plastic body is easy to clean.

If I could change anything, I would make it just a little heavier. When I made cookies, the old school beaters when full of dough caused the mixer to tip forward into the bowl. I find this to be a very minor annoyance. It's a trade off. If it's too heavy, you would get tired when doing a lot of mixing. I don't have room for a stand mixer so this one has to do everything & in my opinion, it does.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent machine, October 19, 2010

Having used my kitchen aid hand mixer to death, it was time for a new hand mixer. I was a thrilled to find the Viking hand mixer. It has all the features you want and several you didn't know you wanted. The retractable cord is awesome. It makes fitting it into tight shelf space a breeze and helps force you to keep it clean. (I have 3 kids who "help" and they don't always wipe down the cord before putting the mixer away, now they have to!)There is tons of power and if the wire beaters weren't substantial enough (and they are) it comes with a set of wider thicker beaters as well. All in all it is a compact work horse with excellent speed control and power.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Hand Mixer I haver ever owned., April 25, 2011

This review is from: Viking Manual 5 Speed Hand Mixer, Metallic Silver (Kitchen)
Over the years I have purchased several hand mixers thinking they would be powerful and last. Not So. I bought them at kitchen stores, Department stores, you name it and invariably after just a few years they lost power. I went on Amazon.com and looked up hand mixers. There were many. Most of which I had seen before and had been disappointed each time. However, I came across the Viking Manual 5 Speed Hand Mixer and read the customer reviews which were uniformly pleased with their purchase. I placed the order and received my mixer in record time. I am totally satisfied with the quality, power, and over all performance. I truly expect to get many years of excellent performance. I give the product and the company 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really Great Mixer - Except..., January 14, 2012

I really love this mixer. It is well made, strong, and confortable to use with a nicely padded handle. It is the best mixer I have owned in the 5 years since my old GE died. I gave away a new Cuisinart recently and bought this one. What I love about it is that it is a serious workhorse - never bogs down, can go as slow as you like or as fast as you like with an incremental slider switch you control with your thumb. Another button releases the beaters. It has stood up to long duration beating while making divinity and short work like cakes and cookies. It is heavy enough to let you know it is a quality mixer, not like cheap plastic mixers but not so heavy your arm gets tired. It has a nice flat base so you can stop and stand it on end when needed. Now for what I dont like about it, the location and position of the cord. It has a nice internal storage feature for the cord. A winder that allows you to wind the cord into the body of the unit for storage. This is great, however, the cord comes out of the side\end of the mixer and points straight up towards the handle. This causes the cord to try and dip into your bowl constantly because it is kinda curly from being wound up. Consequently, your cord ends up with batter here and there and you must clean every bit of it off or it cant be wound back up for storage. No fun trying to get it perfecly clean, and who wants it getting into the batter. I found it helped to hold the cord along with the handle to try and avoid this. The other thing that is a little tough is that the set of regular beaters that come with it are extremely long, about twice as long as normal or about 5 inches. The set of wire beaters that come with are normal sized. You have to use a very tall bowl with the regular beaters or you will splatter everywhere. I use a 6 in stainless bowl from a stand mixer and still manage to splatter while turning the bowl. Overall, a great mixer, not sorry I have it at all. Viking should look at redesigning the location and direction that the cord exits the mixer tho.

This is a great hand mixer. I absolutely love it.
I like that it has a slow speed to start off.
It's a very powerful mixer. It will go through
anything. I highly recommend this to everyone.
You will love it!!! It's very pretty, too!

After burning out several hand mixers with daily use at our Bed & Breakfast, we decided to try the Viking, based on other reviews. We were not disappointed.

It seems very well made, and sturdy, and the retractable power cord is a real blessing!

As others have noted, the slow speed is genuinely slow(!) and it is powerful enough for most any task you can do with a hand mixer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Hand Mixer, March 19, 2011

Fast delivery. Nice product. Smooth and powerful. We have used both sets of beaters and are pleased with the construction and function. The motor is quiet. We use a large counter top mixer for heavy dough and large volumes but we believe this hand mixer probably has the power to handle most of those jobs if called upon to do so. Early on in time of use but it looks like this is a keeper.

I purchased this mixer through Amazon.com and received a great price on a quality hand mixer. I cannot believe the power and efficiency this hand mixer has. It makes whipped potatoes in half the time. I love the retracting cord and the two sets of beaters. This one beats them all.

4.0 out of 5 stars No mix ups with new mixer, October 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Viking Manual 5 Speed Hand Mixer, Metallic Silver (Kitchen)
The new mixer is all Amazon advertised to be. We like having both beaters and whisks. We especially like them being made of stainless steel. The beaters on our old mixer lost some chrome plating and rusted. The retractable cord is a nice feature. The cord could be a little longer however. The speed range is a little high. The lowest speed is a little too fast. Consequently you may never use the highest speed. The unit seems substantially made. We expect it to last a long time. I am disappointed it is made in China - signs of the times.

The Viking 5-Speed hand mixer was the third mixer we tried when replacing a 10 year-old mixer that finally expired. The Viking seems to be much better constructed than the others we tried. The low speeds necessary for mixing finely sifted flour without creating clouds in the kitchen are greatly appreciated! The mixer rests easily on the base when you need to take a break from mixing while adding additional ingredients, etc. The only item that isn't great is the manual cord retraction. It works fine, but requires many turns to get the cord back into the mixer for storage. Overall, an excellent hand mixer that looks to handle our mixing needs for years to come.
