A Card That Does What It Is Supposed To!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Viking 512 MB Secure Digital Flash Card (SD512M) (Personal Computers)
I'm always afraid that I'll get a memory card that has problems or one that will malfunction soon after buying it. The fact is, I have bought many memory cards (of varying formats, brands and capacities) and "knock on wood" not one has ever given me any kind of trouble to speak of. This 512 MB Viking brand SD Card has been functioning perfectly ever since I put it in my Pentax Optio 43WR camera. I guess I cannot legitimately give it anything less than 5 stars based on that.

Not fast enough for Video shooting,

I never thought I could have this problem but when I shoot movies with my Canon SD400 under high settings (30 fps, 640*320) it often shows a red exclamation mark beside the minutes and stopped working quickly after. Now I know why-- it's the SD card that's not fast enough. If I change to a lower setting that never happens again. But why do you want to sacrifice your video quality? Get a better one instead!

I've always wondered what speed SD card I needed for a Canon SDxxx series camera. I can now say that this card (standard speed?) works fine with it. I took a 1 minute 640x480 30fps video with this memory card without a problem.
Pictures shot fine too. No need to spend $$$ for the 40x,60x, or whatever x memory cards for the consumer end digital camera.

Viking being a good brand (Made in Japan-by Toshiba) for memory cards I ordered two memory cards. I mainly wanted it for my palm and I thought I'll keep a spare one to use in some other equipment. Of course before placing the order I had done my homework by finding out how the guys who had purchased it before me felt about it. I was satisfied with what I discovered about the product. I also figured that it was a good deal compared to the rate the local retailers were offering. Out went my order to amazon.com.
The delivery was quick and I've been using it continuously since last couple of months. I must say that it is just perfect for my Palm. The loads of pictures stored in the card can be transferred in a jiffy to my computer, the speed being much better than my previous flash card. My brother tried the spare card in his Kodak camera and was thrilled that it worked well with it. That made me experiment it in my Canon (LCD), but somehow I found it to be a little slow though it did work. Just to satiate my curiosity, I checked out the web for compatibility and found that the card supports the Canon Power Shot SD400, Panasonic LC80, Nikon CoolPix and many other digital cameras. I also found out that the card does not work with MP3 players (trivia for you guys out there). I would say that I am happy with my Viking Flash Card, which I find is very reliable and an good product for the price.

Too slow for video,

The Viking 512 MB card performs flawlessly when taking pictues. However, when taking video, such as on my Canon S2 IS at the highest resolution, this memory card is way too slow. After no more than about 10 seconds, the video will stop so it can finish writing what was captured. With many of the new digital cameras that now provide higher quality video, a faster memory card (a Canon rep recommended a minimum of 40x) is a must.

I use this for my Canon sd300 camera and so far I have no issues with this card. It is fast when taking and downloading pictures and when deleting pictures that you just took. For the price this is a really great card (the best value out there) and I am definately going to get another one thanks to the great deals with the rebates.

Not fast enough for video,

I've used Viking Flash for years and never had a problem with quality. Their components are also a great value. That said, if you're using any of the new Canon cameras (the ones with the big LCDs) this disk WILL be too slow for video. They're more expensive, but you'll have to get faster card. Unfortunately, Viking doesn't seem to make one.

I don't really know what to write in a review about a flash card. I ordered three of these (one for g/f, one for bro-in-law, and myself) and all three are functioning perfectly. had them about 4 months now.
Not much else to say. Viking is a good brand name for memory. These cards perform great. I'll edit this post if I have any trouble with them, but I'm not expecting any.

Works as expected,
This review is from: Viking 512 MB Secure Digital Flash Card (SD512M) (Personal Computers)
I've owned this memory card for about 2 1/2 months now and taken around 100-150 pictures split up between about 5 or 6 different transfers to my computer. I'm using it on a Canon SD200 camera.
I have had no errors, the pictures store and transfer as fast or faster than the factory 16MB card that came with my camera. So far so good!

This memory card came as a free promotional item when I bought my Nikon D50 camera (actually I paid the difference to get the larger memory card, since 256MB was too small), so I didn't really choose the brand, it was chosen for me. However I have no complaints about it. I had never heard of Viking, but the price was right, and I knew that I would end up buying a larger SanDisk Ultra II anyway (which I did). The truth of the matter is that I can not tell which card is in my camera when I use it, or review my pictures. Although I paid many times more for the SanDisk card, in my camera (which has a 32MB internal buffer), there is no difference. This may not be true in other cameras, without an internal buffer, but for me, the Viking memory card has been great. The only difference (for me) might be the transfer speed, when downlowding the pictures to the computer, but I don't sit there timing it. That's a good time to grab a cup of coffee.
