Works Well,

This review is from: Viking USB00256L2 256 MB USB 2.0 Portable Mini Flash Memory Device (Personal Computers)
I noticed the bad reviews are mostly because of the look of the drive, but none of those reviews mention the usefulness of the drive.
When I purchased my Viking 256mb, it was on severe discount (and at the writing of this review, it's plummeted below $30) and I didn't know if I was going to need a USB flash drive. I am marking down the drive only on appearance (kind of clunky), because switching between my PowerBook and home and work Dell PCs is absolutely no problem. I used the drive to carry my university term papers and assignments and had no problems saving data. I also used some space to carry around some MP3s which worked perfectly, no matter what the location. I ended up with the new iPod Shuffle and handed down this drive to my mom who wonders why she has never considered USB flash. She is supervisor at her department, frequently traveling to off-site meetings and writing tons of reports. She had been using floppies, but her home laptop didn't come with a floppy drive (and after they replaced a bunch of computers in her department, neither did a lot of her employees). I don't care if you have one file or a thousand. You need to back up, and USB flash is an easy and convenient way to do it. Taking presentations on the road with you is a cinch here, and taking work home with you couldn't be easier.

Like the title said, it's read speed meets the usb 2.0 spec. But the write speed is as slow as usb 1.1 spec.
