1.0 out of 5 stars Stay Away from Viking! May 27, 2010
I bought a 36" All Gas Viking Range (mine was with griddle top) in 2004, and have had problems ever since. I invested in a Viking thinking that this would be a quality product that would last. With three growing kids, I do a lot of cooking, and wanted a product that I could depend on. The range was more expensive (over $5,000 when I bought it) than other brands, but I thought it would be worth the investment. I was wrong. The quality of the range has been very disappointing!

When my first range was delivered, the oven would not ignite. The service technician told me that all the igniters in the oven were broken. Not a good sign. Rather than have them fix the problem, I insisted on a new range. This I got, but then a year later, the broiler stopped working and that thermostat had to be replaced. In 2009, the front left burner wouldn't stop clicking even after the burner ignited. The technician had to replace the spark module, and at the same time recommended replacing the two oven igniters as they were slow to come on. This year, the griddle knob stem broke off. I mean give me a break! I cook often, but am not careless, and was infuriated when everyone insisted that the knob probably got "bumped." If you look a the stem, it's not even a solid piece of metal! I had to replace the whole thermostat system. And to make matters worse, when investigating the thermostat problem, I noticed that the griddle had split along its seam and was oozing grease onto the inside of the range!

That was the last straw. I wrote Viking about how disappointed I was with their product and the hundreds of dollars I have had to spend in repairs. At the very least, I wanted them to replace the griddle without charge.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy a Viking, they are very rude on the phone too. February 24, 2012
Ours is now 5 years old and has been nothing but trouble, leaks gas, oven does not come up to temperature, burners click and do not light. One burner no longer functions - turns on but does not adjust and it is hard to tell when gas is turned off. Door is broken and does not shut fully. Constantly smells of leaking gas.

We already did our first two rounds of repairs on this awful stove - both at $600 and now we need a third. The service person said all Vikings are terrible stoves and his experience has been all owners are unhappy.

Why there is no class action against Viking is a mystery. I called them on the phone the first time it broke and they had no intereste in my complaint at all.

1.0 out of 5 stars poor quality, breaks down, poor customer service December 19, 2011

I bought a 3 year old house with the viking 36" professional range (same as reviewer #1) and I too have had tons of problems with this range. Burners click constantly, one only lights once and then you have to wait until another day for it to light again. The oven burns everything so it probably needs the thermostat redone, which is expensive. Then the other day the hinge on the oven door broke and now the oven door flies open. A piece of junk and huge disappointment DO NOT BUY VIKING

1.0 out of 5 stars Buy Something Else April 11, 2013
Purchased this product new for a home remodel. Installed and all features worked. After using oven the first time, oven would not come on again. Called Viking and they told me to call their local reapir service. Repair person came out next day and said he would have to call us back. After several calls to Viking and repair person, was told that Viking repair person had not worked on this model before and had to read the manual to see if he could determine what was wrong, and that he would come out again with the manual this time to look at it again. So, after spending a ridiculous amount of money on this stove, I wish I had purchased a new GE- the Viking replaced a GE model that had no trouble for 11 years! Really wanted buy an "All-America" product but has not paid off so far.

Quick Update- It's now April 24 and despite numerous calls to Viking the parts still have not arrived at our local warranty repair shop without a word of apology from Viking. If you are looking for a really good weight to hold down your kitchen flooring buy a Viking- otherwise, buy something that works!

2.0 out of 5 stars Lots of problems May 28, 2012
I bought a 30-inch Viking Range in 1994. Immediately after I bought it, all the enamel started to fly off the burner grates as soon as I lit the burners. Within months, they were so chipped that Viking had to replace them. Then the oven door started acting up - as soon as the oven got hot, the door wouldn't stay closed on the oven! Have had several instances where the electronic burner ignition suddenly just stops working - usually after I've used the oven, so I had to get a technician to come out and re-align the door. Then a few months later, it just starts working again. Go figure! When the oven is on, the flame on the burners flickers and becomes erratic. Guess you can't cook and bake at the same time with this expensive range. I am very careful with things, i.e., this range has not been mis-treated; nevertheless, over the years, I've had to spend a lot on repairs.
