The captions are interesting and occasionally longer than the text. Martell explains Viking society, government, clothing, family life, gods and goddesses, sports, farms, feasts, etc. Collections holding Gibson's The Vikings (Silver Pr, 1977; o.p.) or Clarke's Vikings (Gloucester, 1984) may not need this book.
