Superb book,

Received this book as a gift. In the spirit of the Ology books (Dragonology etc), Lost Worlds: Vikings takes you into the amazing world of the Norsemen. The book gives you all the history and legend but presents it in an extremely attractive, interactive way. There is a sound chip of an Anglo-Saxon monk (speaking Anglo-Saxon!) describing the Viking attack on England in 793, there are fold out pages, flaps and even interactive runestones. A great book for young adults or even adults. Highly recommended.

Beautiful book of the sort my 9-year-old son loves. Kudos to Sterling for pulling off the Candlewick trick quite nicely and making what could be a dry subject very exciting.

My husband is full blooded Norwegian and it was really interesting to find out the True story of the Vikings. I would recommend this book to anyone of Scandinavian descent to read about their ancestry or anyone who collects the "ology" books as I do. Judi Underland

I just received this book as a Christmas gift and am amazed by how well put together it is. It's an interactive book (like Dragonology, etc.) but not so much for kids as adults. The artwork and overall design of the book is beautiful, and I have to say the price is low for what you get. As others have pointed out, there may be a few factual errors here and there (I wouldn't know-I'm no expert on Vikings), but that's to be expected with almost any history book. Besides, if you delve deeper into the subject you'll easily be able to cross reference other works and find a decent approximation of the truth, which is all we know of history anyways. As for me, I'll be busily turning pages in awe at the beauty of Lost Worlds: The Vikings and probably starting over again when I'm finished.

Simple, basic, yet fun and colorful history of the Vikings. A great introduction for kids and adults alike. If you're like me, and was never taught any history of this region or era, this is a good place to start.

I bought this book for my son who is a very into the Norse/Viking history. He thought the book very unique, the art very beautiful and the interactive parts (flip maps, flip pictures, etc) really cool but as he read through some of the writings, he said many were inaccurate. I highly recommend this for someone who is looking for a unique gift or for someone who has already studied the true facts about the Vikings but NOT for someone who is just starting to gather information on them. The sound clip is pretty cool and a nifty add to the books appeal, the artwork and the way the book is put together makes it a really lovely gift but as far as accuracy on the Viking history, please be aware that the information isnt always correct. Doing more research is recommended if you want a more complete, true history.

Beautiful on the surface, but errors make this book a waste of paper.,

I flipped through this book two days ago in the store. It's absolutely beautiful and on skimming, very interesting to read. I was very excited when I saw it because I have a strong interest in the Vikings. Particularly in their use of runes and the carvings they did. I was extremely disappointed when I got to the page about the Elder Futhark. Their description of the rune Uruz isn't even close to accurate - the rune is thought to represent a wild bison that is now extinct, this book says it represents water - and they draw Teiwaz similar to a "P" instead of the "T" it should be. I was so shocked by the enormity of these two errors that I can't remember the others well enough to recount them here as well. That they managed to get something as easy as this wrong in the book makes me wonder what other facts they have wrong. I like to learn history as accurately as possible. I do not have faith that this book can fulfill that requirement. Sadly, I think this book is the stereotypical pretty girl - beautiful on the surface with nothing intelligent going on underneath.
