Editorial Reviews

A group of strangers finds themselves imprisoned in a house. Unsure why they are there or who is behind it, the group is soon enlightened by a video advising them there is a way out! But the threshold they must cross is one of excruciating pain and in the face of torture not everyone is willing to play by the newly created rules. The group is ripped apart by infighting, secret alliances, double-crosses and shattering outbursts of violence. With the clock ticking down, the one for all mentality devolves. Just how far will each of them go to survive?

I watched Vile today on Fios on demand and wasn't disappointed.
I had already read some 'real reviews'not the ONE review wonders that everyone should beware of..
So I knew it wasn't going to be as visually violent as other torture porn entries.

I do wish there had been some detailed effects because if there would have been real gore and more effects I would have given this 5 stars. The acting was good as was the premise even though we have seen so many of these types of movies where a group of people are locked in a room and they have to do terrible things to one another to survive and either the inner beast or the good of heart are released for all to see.

This one had it's own flavor and was more clever than quite a few of the others I have seen.
It was brutal and violent , I'm not saying it wasn't,what I am saying is that if they had a bigger budget it could have been off the charts awesome. That being said sometimes what you don't see can be more horrifying than what you do.

There were a couple of (that could never happen moments)example"carrying someone after you have had your collarbone busted in to a million pieces".I will give that a pass because Iv'e seen many more ridiculous scenarios than that in other horror films and loved them.If being burned then having bleach poured on your burns, brutal tooth extraction or having your fingernails pulled out with pliers freaks you out by all means watch it or not.
There was a twist I never saw coming and a very satisfying ending.I was very impressed especially after writer and executive producer Rob Kowsaluk wrote in my Amazon review comments that they were working with a shoestring budget.

A hot iron to the stomach. A pile of salt on an open wound. A wrench to the jaw. An arm dunked in rapidly-boiling water. A fingernail or two torn off with pliers. Torture-porn horror subgenre fans take note ~ this little shocker will hit the spot. The torture is literally part of the point of the film. 'Vile' is a gruesome direct-to-video piece about a group of people kidnapped and trapped at a location (don't you love that?) and forced to inflict severe pain on each other in order to fill up the vials (get it?) attached to the back of their heads with the various fluids the brain produces when in excruciating pain. The purpose, we find out, is for a powerful new drug. Only when they fill the amount with what's needed will they be allowed to leave. The thing I like most about this movie are the characters. The chemistry between our protagonists is excellent and they're vastly more likable to even the SAW movies. So many of these stories start with people just waking up out of nowhere, but these people meet on a camping trip before the pain begins. Yes there's an actual backstory! The director, Taylor Sheridan, does exceptionally well and the score isn't bad. Hey it was tedious at times I'll admit but at the end I was F'n impressed! All of the filmmakers ~ keep up the good work. VILE is available on Netflix or Amazon demand right now. Peep it you sick freaks.

Surprisingly I enjoyed this movie. This is definitely a low budget movie and the acting is not so great. The first I think twenty minutes I was contemplating turning it off, but then when the torture began I was hooked. Then I got my adrenaline running when one of the protagonist was thinking up all the rules. There were definitely some great sweet revenge in here and a satisfying ending. I enjoyed the actors, they really were personable even with what they had to work with. I would have loved for this to have been a little more gory, but that's just me. I enjoyed the back story and I enjoyed the twist.

Some people here mentioned about the music, to be honest I didn't really pay much attention to the music and if you ask me it wasn't out of place. I wouldn't want rock and roll through the whole movie cause it would ruin the flow and for this being such a low-budget movie rock and roll would've made this movie corny and it wouldn't have the same feel. I love the plot, love the characters, love the back story...I just loved this movie overall. The ending PRICELESS! I was sad at certain parts. I guess I loved the build up of characters, they did a great job in that department, made you feel for what happens to them (Except for one lol)

Overall, I was delighted.

The film opens attempting to build character of two young couples. The next thing you know they are trapped inside a house with other people. Their brains are connected to a collection system which measures and deposits chemicals produced when the body is in pain. The captives have 22 hours (86 minutes movie time) to produce the desired amount of this chemical or else! They can feel free to use any of the torture devices provided.

There are two things you can do, should you want to play the game.

A) Figure out which ways effectively get the desired chemical by causing pain, but minimizing the damage to the body, such as pulling a tooth and irritating the nerve ending underneath or...
B) Draw lots and randomly torture each other in different ways.

Plan B makes for a better film. The film was mindless and senseless, not like the original "Saw." Unless you just want to watch people hitting and cutting each, you might want to take a pass. Oh yes, expected twist blah blah blah. The opening soundtrack/scene was the best aspect of the film.

Parental Guide: F-bombs. No sex or nudity.
