4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Home Use
I bought one of these around a year ago & I use it quite regularly to grind everything from wild duck & venison to whole chuck (inclusing almost a whole axis & a whole white tail). I've put a few hundred pounds of meat & vegetables (carrots, onions, &c.) through it - including some secondary grinding for a finer consistency - & I've had no complaints. It does just what...

Were it not for the plastic coupling which attaches the grinding unit to the metal motor housing, I would give this item 4+ stars, but it is certain that this screw coupling, which must be used each time the grinder is washed, will fail before any other part of the grinder.

Everything else is satisfactory and it does a good job of grinding at 3 different degrees from course to very fine. The motor is more than powerful enough and makes easy work of very tough cuts. The sausage-stuffing tube works as advertised and is a good plus.

I've put a few hundred pounds of meat & vegetables (carrots, onions, &c.) through it - including some secondary grinding for a finer consistency - & I've had no complaints. It does just what I need to make my own ground meat & pan sausage & it's easy to clean up.
I'm just beginning to experiment with link sausage & it does very well on that front too, though that's not the primary function; for larger volumes, you might want to get a proper sausage stuffer so you don't tax the motor on this grinder.
As long as you follow the instructions & put only appropriately sized chunks through it, you won't have any problems.
Don't expect to grind bones.
Don't expect to start a home butchering enterprise.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: VillaWare V5266 Elite Pro Grinder Stainless-Steel Meat Grinder (Kitchen)
I bought this grinder and turned around and returned it because it did not meet my expectations. The refund was rapid. (Thanks a bunch amazon!) I would not recommend it to anyone - It was slow and got stuck every 2 seconds!

2.0 out of 5 stars Wish it lasted, January 31, 2009

I have this grinder for about a year. It worked great, but the tube u stuff meat through was a little small. I ground whole chikens for my cats, and it went ok til today. I put a leg through it and i heard a crunch and the shaft stopped turning. I opened thecasing up and the gears come to find out are plastic, so needless to say this is the weakest link. So other than the fact that it just broke on me it was an ok grinder for meat only!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Extremely dissatisfied, November 21, 2011
This review is from: VillaWare V5266 Elite Pro Grinder Stainless-Steel Meat Grinder (Kitchen)
I received this grinder as a gift two Christmas's ago to process my own venison. I never have been very pleased with the performance. I have always thought it to be extremely slow. Grinding a 20 lb batch might take an hour with 2 or 3 cleanings in between. I have processed maybe 5 deer through this grinder. Today, I started to grind some meat and the auger would not spin. Would work fine with no meat in it, but as soon as I dropped a chunk in the auger quit spinning. After three and a half frustrating hours of dissassembling, cleaning, inspecting, and repeating with less than a half pound of meat for my effort I went to Academy and bought a new grinder (not a VillaWare). I ground close to 40 pounds of meat in about 15 minutes. I can say for sure this VillaWare never ground meat that fast. Being that this was the first grinder I have used, I really didn't know what to expect, but always thought it better than hand grinding. After having seen my new grinder rip though meat without even the slightest effort, I'm convinced you get what you pay for when it comes to this type of equipment. Wish I would have upgraded two years ago when I had the chance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grinds Meat and Fish Quickly, July 6, 2011
This review is from: VillaWare V5266 Elite Pro Grinder Stainless-Steel Meat Grinder (Kitchen)
I've been using this a few times a year for the last couple years to grind beef, pork, chicken and fish and it still works fine. I like to make a couple dozen burgers at a time and heave thenm in the freezer. It is so easy that i can't bear to buy griund meat at the supermarket. The motor is strong and it grinds the meat/fish quickly. I have also used it to make veffie burgers; nicer texture than the food processor. Very easyvto clean. I am surprised with some of the reviews because I've been quite happy. I wouldn't suggest you use it to grind chicken bones as one reviewer did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the Job Well - Disappointed with pricing, August 3, 2007
This review is from: VillaWare V5266 Elite Pro Grinder Stainless-Steel Meat Grinder (Kitchen)
I bought this product at a cost of $117.00 one week ago. It was the last item in stock through Amazon. It has just become available again at a price of $105.00. I am disappointed that I couldn't benefit from the price reduction.

That said, the grinder works well, is reasonably straightforward to assemble and take apart for cleaning, and cleans up easily. I am using it to grind beef for hamburgers and meatballs. Nothing fancy such as deer, venison, bear, etc. No bones or sausages. It appears to be a sturdy and well working household appliance. Time will tell about product life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice appliance!, February 1, 2007

Good grinder. I have used it since I got it and it works to my expectations, which, by the way, is not that of a professional butcher. I cut for my family, that is all. Works great for the amount of grinding and cutting that I do.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad products, bad company, December 14, 2009
This review is from: VillaWare V5266 Elite Pro Grinder Stainless-Steel Meat Grinder (Kitchen)
I'd give Villaware zero stars if I could.

Bought a cookie press for my wife a few years ago, she used it 3 times and the plastic tube split on the 3rd time. It was normal, room temperature dough and the tube was less then half full. The company does not stand behind their products, don't offer replacement parts and then tell you to buy a whole new one.

I'll never buy another Villaware product of any kind.
