Book Description

September 8, 1998
As lighted porcelain village pieces become more detailed and sophisticated, collectors are desiring to place them in more realistic settings. The Original Village Display Tips books is a basic reference for building displays. Village Display Tips: Volume II is more advanced. Topics include laying out villages around focal points, transitioning one village into another, merging pieces from one village into another effectively, and developing seasonal displays for spring or Halloween. It also includes adding multiple trains and other animation, as well as using wheat lighting to create brighter or more atmospheric displays. There are also more ways to assimilate water - waterfalls and streams; construct mountains and to develop interesting backgrounds. Additionally, instructions are provided to build several projects to detail a display. Whether just starting out or well seasoned, this informative book is another basic resource for all village collectors.

3.0 out of 5 stars Little dissapointed, September 9, 2005

The book was just ok. I thought it was way over priced, I expected to get lots of ideas for building a fabulous display along with directions. There were a few ideas and the discriptions could have been better. I will still use the book and ideas but had I looked at the book before buying it sight unseen, I probably wouldn't have bought it.

The book has some ideas for pulling together a nice village. However, I think the average user is less interested in how to coordinate the colors of their village in an artsie-fartsie way and more interested in details on how to contruct a village background, how to hide cords, ideas for storage, et. The book does give a couple of examples, but more detail in this area would be more helpful. Overall though it is not a bad book and worth getting as a beginner if for no other reason than I didn't find anything else out there that was better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Village Display Tips: Volume 2, March 4, 2006

This is a great book to give you some ideas in displaying your villages. It has nice clean pictures and some cool tricks to make water, scenes, ect. The only downfall for me was I wish it had a larger section on mixing trains with village pieces. It does contain a nice chapter on this, but it would be nice to see more info. If just village tips your after, then this is the book for you!
