This review is from: The Village War: Vietnamese Communist Revolutionary Activities in Dinh Tuong Province, 1960-1964 (Hardcover)
The author, U.S. Army (Ret.), bases this book on POW interviews, document analyses, etc., that he worked on while employed with the U.S. Information Agency. The book neatly outlines the stages by which the Vietnamese Communist party took control of villages from the GVN. This is a concise, illuminating and very readable book that details the admixture of ideology and practicality, coercion and persuasion, that won control over most of the Mekong Delta. Readers who think the Communists simply terrorized villages into submission, or who think that villagers spontaneously supported the communists, will learn a lot.
