About the Author

STEPHANIE S. SANDERS lives in Iowa with her two mischievous girls and her deceptively sweet husband. When she's not plotting against her own characters, Stephanie is likely to be found creating strange works of art, taking incriminating photographs, reading dangerous books, or eating indecent amounts of chocolate.

More About the Author

Hello everyone! My name is Stephanie S. Sanders. I am author of the VILLAIN SCHOOL series. If you like adventure, magic and humor then you should definitely check it out!

A little about me:
I grew up on an Iowa farm. I had a LOT of time to myself, and I used it to make up my own adventures and stories. My time was spent playing along streams or running through woods or even cornfields. But no matter where I went, a notebook and pencil usually went with me.

These days, I have a family of my own... my wonderful husband and two amazing girls. We have a few pets: Buddy the beagle, an evil cat named Pudge and a goldfish named Speedy Tomato. We all live together in a VERY old house. (With only one bathroom!)

My favorite stories are fantasies filled with magic, dragons, castles, wizards and adventure. What are your favorite stories?

It made me smile, made me laugh and made me remember fond memories of my own childhood.

Much to my surprise, this was actually a REALLY great read (I wasn't too sure at first given the title had the word "school" in it, ya' know?).

I was entralled from the first chapter and very suprised at the twist and turns the story took.

Wonderful story! I will save this book to read with my grandchildren and will be donating one to the local and middle school library.

Much to my surprise, this was actually a REALLY great read (I wasn't too sure at first given the title had the word "school" in it, ya' know?). Anyway, Rune makes a strong lead character (LOVE his sarcasm and humor), and he shares the stage with a pretty cool cast of enduring characters (wolves, sprites, ogres, kings, queens, Dracula... oh, my!) It's like a mush of fairy tales meets all-other-things-children's-classics with soft wisps of Arthurian legend and Potter thrown in. HOW TOTALLY COOL IS THAT? This is one of those books that is thoroughly enjoyed on its own, but if you pay attention, you can clearly see it setting the stage for future story plots. I'm hoping Sanders is planning on building a decent-sized series using these characters because she's definitely got a great foundation in which to carry something like that through. I'm not sure what the plans are, but I'm really hoping to see these characters grow and mature with time and have the plots deepen and mature right along with them (kinda' like Rowling did with Potter or Lewis did in the Narnia books). That would be AWESOME! Definitely looking forward to more...

I think I was still on page one when I started laughing and felt that the humor was placed perfectly throughout the story to keep up the fun. Not an overly complicated story but fast paced and I thought the idea of famous villain kids was a fun new concept that I'd never seen before. Honestly I think this would be a great read for both middle grade girls and boys.

I enjoyed this one. The school in question is for "wayward villains" -- kids who have done something good and embarrassed their truly villainous parents (Count Dracula and the Big Bad Wolf are among the parents). The characters are likable, and there is plenty of humor. The plot is predictable, but fast-paced and satisfying. I would happily recommend this book to 8- to 12-year-olds.

(Note: I received a free advance reading copy of this book from the publisher at a American Library Association Annual Conference. I was not required to write a positive review. Thank you, Bloomsbury!)
