Brilliant...again!,
By Bob (UK) - See all my reviews

This band are simply phenomonal. They are masters of what they do. but again the Saw Doctors have produced a cracking album. It's different...that's for sure. There are new styles such as the heavy guitars on the title track and the brass on a lot of tracks. but it is classic. This Is Me, Villains?, DNA and Bound To The Peace are as classic as any Saw Doctors material. The first time I heard the CD i wasn't quite sure. but the next time I definitely was, and they are great live.

A Great Irish Band Scores Again,
By A Customer
This review is from: Villains (Audio CD)
The first time I listened to this CD, I thought it was very good. The second and third times, I realized this was a great CD. A solid, enjoyable, thoughtful and fun CD. SawDoctors fans will love it and newcomers will be glad they bought it. And, if you ever get the chance to see these guys in concert, do so. They are an excellent live band.

The best band you've never heard of!,

That wasn't my quote -- it came from some reviewer somewhere -- but it's TRUE. I've introduced dozens of people to the Saw Doctors, and everyone loves them. These new songs are great -- we've been hearing them in concert for two years now.Take a chance on this album. You won't be sorry. The Saw Doctors ROCK in the happiest way.

A Change of Pace, but in the right direction,
By JP (Arlington, VA United States) - See all my reviews

If you've ever experienced a live Saw Doctors show, you know that the energy and excitement doesn't really translate to a studio recording. This album is the exception. Quality recording, a good mix of fast and slow songs, and three songs (This is Me, Chips, and DNA) that are among their finest. Leo and Pearse really shine on this album, they are truly emerging as powerful songwriters. A must-buy! And be sure to check them out live. As the other reviewer said, this is the bast band you have never heard of!

so, sing a powerful song was, is GREAT. this one... not so much. i mean, i can listen to sing a powerful song time and again. the songs are passionate and real and though they're firmly rooted in the band's irish heritage, speak with a wonderful universal quality.villains... is just not so good. at times they sound like they might be close to having a great song on their hands, but then it just falls to pieces. this album sounds like it's trying to hard - like they've forgotten whatever it was that made sing a powerful song such an incredible album. my recommendation, buy 5 copies of sing a powerful song. keep one for your house, one for your car, wear one around your neck a la flavor flav, send one home to your mom, and leave the last one at your local bar in the hands of serendipity. don't even bother with villains. just saw them get blown off the stage in buffalo by a local band named jackdaw.

Change of pace,
By A Customer
This review is from: Villains (Audio CD)
this is a change of pace for the saw doctors...from the opening dylanesque sound of villians.its not as happy go lucky as previous saw doctors efforts, more horn driven than drum driven. but again, this is one of the most underappreciated bands in the world |
