5.0 out of 5 stars much better than everything i touch
villany and virtue is a great second cd by DTF. with 3 new members, and a totally new style, DTF took my breath away when this cd came out. the heavier breakdowns and complicated riffs make this essential if you like metal or hardcore

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost great
I really enjoyed the instrumentals on this album a great deal, but the vocals killed it for me which is why I give this a 3. He sounds like Jamie Jasta with a sore throat, and I don't even like Jasta's voice in the first place.

The vocalist attempts to do death metal vocals but cannot reach the deep pitches required for them, thus sounding kinda weak and...

5.0 out of 5 stars metalcore will reign, April 11, 2005

This review is from: Villainy & Virtue (Audio CD)
Now I love this whole new wave of metalcore bands and Victory label is the label that holds all the greats in hardcore and metalcore Between the buried and me,Bury your dead,Atreyu,A perfect murder, and Dead to fall. Dead To Fall is amazing they go from metal to hardcore and even some growling they just are amazing mosh music. So jump in the pit against Dead To Fall and they'll send Throwdown and Terror home like little bi***s.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Album This Band Has Ever Had, March 23, 2007
This review is from: Villainy & Virtue (Audio CD)
This is by far the best album that dead to fall has ever had in my opinion. The phoenix throne and everything I touch falls to pieces are both great albums but this one is the best out of the 3.
Heres a list of what to look for in some of the songs:
1) Torn Self: Medium level song good bass and good vocals
2) Bastard set of dreams: Great guitar and vocal work possibly one of the best songs on the album.
3)Stand your grounds: Medium instrumental work but a nice chorus
4)You've already died: Just a normal metalcore songs better than #3 but nothing special.
5)Villainy and Virtue: the title track: good instrumental work and good vocals nothing special.
6) Little birds: instrumental continuation of #5
7) Blood Of The Moon: Possibly the sickest drum solo you will ever hear. This is one for the record books. The Vocals are very good too.
8) Cross Section: instrumental continuation of #7.
9) Master Exploder: Incredible Vocals possibly the best vocals on the entire album. Incredible bass solo. And also my personal Favorite.
10)Epilogue: Instrumental song with very good bass.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome/ Agressive Metal!, May 16, 2005
This review is from: Villainy & Virtue (Audio CD)
After listening to them on the IO Metal channel, i thought i'd give them a try. i bought this album for a really low price, and i can say that it's worth each and every penny, and then some! It starts out with 'Torn Self' which is my faorite song on the album. After hearing this song, I was hooked! it's agressive, it's brutal, it's even techincal! The rest of the album is solid as hell, not letting up for anything! My only problem with the album are the nonsongs like little birds, i can do without that one.

Favorite songs: Torn Self, Stand your Ground, and Master Exploder

5.0 out of 5 stars Metalcore Doesn't Get Any Better Than This, March 29, 2005
This review is from: Villainy & Virtue (Audio CD)
Yes, I listen to metalcore, and I admit that some of it can tend to get a tad outdated, but Dead To Fall is out to prove that not all metalcore is the same. I don't have this CD, but when I listened to a few songs, I knew that this was an essential masterpiece. The opener, "Bastard Set Of Dreams", gets the ball rolling. This is a great song. Well done, Victory records. You have another great band on your roster.

5.0 out of 5 stars These guys are cool., February 7, 2005
This review is from: Villainy & Virtue (Audio CD)
"Stand Your Ground" is worth the price of the album alone, but the rest of the songs are amazing as well. Some will say that they are metalcore, and with some songs, they're right. But other songs have no breakdowns at all, and are 100% pure metal, meaning that they could release an amazing all-metal album if they so pleased. Aside from great musicianship, they're also a cool bunch of guys. I recently got to request a song from them on XM radio's Liquid Metal program, where they had "taken over" for a few hours, and let me say they seem to not be the bunch of sourpusses you see walking around all high and mighty like some rock/metal/hardcore stars. They have fun, and their happiness is infectious.

Long Live \m/etal.

4.0 out of 5 stars A whole new perspective on music..., December 19, 2004
By
Briana (Mississauga, ON) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Villainy & Virtue (Audio CD)
To tell you the truth, the amazing artwork on the front of this cd is what caught my attention. It's filled with colour and precision like ive never seen throughout a cd before. It's not the best feature, but defiantly adds to the overall experience of this cd.

The music is sort of like a combination between the black dahlia, a perfect murder, darkest hour, and as I lay dying. This is not to say, however, that they aren't unique, because they truly are.
The songs are generally well structured, technical, and hardcore, but also incorporate well-flowing melody. There are also a couple instrumental songs that do well to lead into the next song. Overall, the cd flows nicely. There's pretty good production on it; you can capture all the elements of each song which really ties in to make this cd a terrific album to own.

One thing I really liked about this album is the lyrics. Most of them are creative, even poetic, and very expressive which is nice for me. The lyrics to this cd aren't your usual pessimistic crap. Most bands these days seem to only know how to feel and write about sadness, anger, and pain. Although these probably are the strongest human emotions, and the easiest to feel, I don't see why every song off of every cd has to be so negative. This cd has more of an uplifting tone to it in a couple songs, which is a nice change from the usual "Death to All" attitude that streams off of other cds.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great follow-up and pleasant surprise, December 12, 2004
By
This review is from: Villainy & Virtue (Audio CD)
V+V is a really, really great follow-up to Everything I Touch Falls To Pieces. The breakdowns and riffs are so freakin' brutal it's insane. The vocals are pretty sweet, too, even though other reviewers say they aren't (I don't know why). This album is also a little less monotone than Everything I Touch..., no disrespect to that album, it's just that this one has more variety. My only complaint is that there are too many instrumental breaks in this cd and only 8 songs with vocals, which is why I can't give it 5 stars. Pick this one up though if you have the chance though, because it will own you.
