All canisters have a 5-by-5-inch square base but come in varying heights of 6-1/4, 7-1/4, and 8-1/4 inches tall. They are ideal for storing dry goods, such as sugar, flour, or beans, or simply displaying in a hutch to give a kitchen some country flavor. Made of fine china, the canisters have a slightly translucent appearance but offer the weight and strength of earthenware. They are durable enough to be safely cleaned in the dishwasher. These canisters coordinate with other pieces in the Cottage collection, including the Cottage Blue and Cottage Red collections with their New-England-farmhouse-style stenciled borders. --Cristina Vaamonde

I love the design of the cannister set, but nowhere in the reviews did it mention made in China. I think it is too expensive considering the decals etc are not the same quality as my other Villeroy and Boch pieces. Also there was a small chip on one of the lids. Just overall very disappointed that it was not the same quality as I expected!

TWO STARS FOR THE DESIGN, NONE FOR THE COLORS AND QUALITY,

C. Pendleton wrote in her review: NOWHERE DID IT MENTION MADE IN CHINA... And I did not listen to her.C. Pendleton told me very clearly: BEWARE, CORINNA! MADE IN CHINA... And I did NOT listen to her. Yes sir, I am soooooooo much smarter than C. Pendleton, that I had to go ahead and purchase these canisters despite of her warnings. And now here I am, the happy owner of about 140 pieces of Villeroy & Boch products made in Germany and Luxembourg... and the frustrated owner of 3 canisters made in China. What the hell was I thinking when I decided to buy Villeroy & Boch canisters made in China? Even worse, why manufacture defective V & B products in China??? V & B products are not precisely cheap, but if you want quality, V & B quality, you have to pay the price. And the price I paid was one hundred dollars for three cheap canisters made in China. The design on the canisters is nice (of course, it's the Cottage Inn design that is so great!), but the technique... no! no! no! The colors are too dark, too opaque, too dreary. NEVER BEFORE DID I SEE DARK, OPAQUE AND DREARY COLORS ON VILLEROY & BOCH PRODUCTS!!! At first, I wanted to send the canisters back; then, I decided to keep them as a reminder of my "smartness". Up to this date, I still don't have the courage to offer them as a gift. You don't do this to a friend, do you? But hey, there is more to these canisters than their darkness, opaqueness and dreariness. They also have those little cute chips on their lids that add to your bitterness. Of course, you can avoid adding more chips by not touching the lids at all. By the way, none of my other V & B products have even the smallest chip, even after years and years of use. Yes, we are talking about German and Luxembourgian quality here. If you want to buy quality, please be smarter than me. Look for V & B products made in Germany and Luxembourg. Please. P.S.: Now the product description tells you about these canisters being made in China. Consider this as a warning and not as a piece of information.
