Mr. Nimoy did a wonderful thing when he brought this play to many cities around the USA. When it was released on DVD I had to have a copy for my own library. He entertains and educates in this one man play. I knew only that Vincent had been declared a mad man who cut off his ear, but this DVD help me see the tortured soul inside this great artist. He makes a lovely statement during his play about artists and how they are preceived by their fans and the ordinary people, it rings very true for our generation as well as would it have back in Vincent's day. Buy it you won't be sorry. I even purchased it for a friend who I knew would appreciate the wonderful performance given in this play. Enjoy! Enjoy!

I have been a big fan of Leonard Nimoy for many years, and this wonderful DVD of his one-man play VINCENT has led me to admire him even more. Nimoy gives a very sincere and dramatic performance, and the story is true since it's all based on letters between Vincent Van Gogh and his brother Theo. The day after I watched the play, I ran it again but this time listening to the commentary track, and was again enthralled as Nimoy told fascinating background stories that showed his dedication to this project. For instance, he noted that many of Van Gogh's paintings have often been reproduced poorly in books, so Nimoy personally re-photographed many of them and offered his photos to museums and book publishers. This example illustrates Nimoy's passion about the art and life of Vincent Van Gogh that shines through in the play. Another bonus on the disc is an enjoyable slide show of Van Gogh's paintings and drawings. As you might guess, I highly recommend this DVD!!

I already owned a VHS copy of the production, however I decided to treat myself to a DVD version and I wasn't disappointed. Not only was the quality of the DVD better than the video, but, what a surprise to have the opportunity to listen to Leonard give a running commentary on the production, including lovely snippets such as the night the whole theatre was booked out by NBC and the problems of getting them away from the bar and foyer and into the theatre so that the production could actually start!!
Absolutely loved it - and very pleased that I decided to treat myself!!

Nimoy Dramatizes A Moving Tribute to Van Gogh,

This review is from: Vincent (DVD)
Wonderful. I've seen this production several times and Leonard Nimoy's live, one man dramatization recorded at the old Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis is by far the best. Outside of Van Gogh's painting, drawings and diaries themselves, this is my all time favorite tribute to Van Gogh. I am so glad it has been released recently on DVD to be enjoyed again and again.

I am American but live in the UK and this was unavailable here. Delivery from the states was excellent (less time than stated). I had watched this play many years ago and wanted to see it again. Leonard Nimoy is excellent in this one man show. I would recommend it to lovers of Van Goph, L.Nimoy, or just art appreciators.

Nimoy's performance is electric. He plays both Vincent and Vincent's brother Theo, bringing to life two complex and very different personalities. In this show we get a glimpse of Vincent that shows him as both loveable and infuriating.

A most ingenious play that truly delivers the vibrantcy of Vincents "shooting-comet of a life". Leonard Nimoy is intimate, sincere and most convincing in his portrayal of "Theo". A must-see for all Van Gogh fans!
