3.0 out of 5 stars Rarely capitalizes on potential
The kind of arty post trip-hop scenarios which eagerly compels with bold ideas, crash-and-burns in artistic ambiguity, or more commonly dissipates into a hackneyed presentation between these two tugging forces of snobbish creativity.

5.0 out of 5 stars x marks the spot, July 20, 2006
This review is from: Vincent & Mr Green (Audio CD)
This has to be one of the hardest albums to describe in terms of comparing it to other music...fact is, this record sounds unlike anything I've ever heard before...or since (I've had it for nearly two years)...Jade Vincent's voice is disturbingly beautiful...Keefus Ciancia's music is a minefield of buried treasure...you will be continually blown away by the riches you unearth...all sixteen tracks hit buttons and trigger memories and feelings.

It's the record I've gone back to again and again...more than any other...It cuts it through good times and the bad...trust me, you've got to hear this stuff!

If you love music...you will love this album...

4.0 out of 5 stars Prince on heroin... or Portishead on speed?, August 17, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vincent & Mr Green (Audio CD)
I got this CD because Ipecac recommended it, and amazon came up with the idea, too (based on another purchase). My interest was piqued even more when I couldn't find ANYTHING from these guys ANYWHERE in Australia (not where I looked, anyway!)
After months of 'umm-ing' and 'ah-ing', I took the gamble...

What I found was more than any 'review' could have prepared me for. This CD is fat (or Phat)! It has some of the deepest bass that a sub woofer can handle, yet contrasts with some very delicate percussion that you have to strain to hear. This all comes together with a strange vocal mix that has no real place in this 'style' of music! Yet it works so well. It is a 'feeling' CD; I find it sobering. There is a matter of factness about the music that forces you to take it seriously, yet a broodiness about the whole mix that makes you realise that your life ain't so bad.

I mentioned in my header that this is either Prince on the Horse, or Portishead on the wizz. I mean this. There are elements of both of these artists in this music. It is brilliant. I don't know if this is a band that I will go and buy everything they ever did, but I am certainly greatful that I have this CD. It's impressive.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Record, July 22, 2006

I agree with the other reviews on this page - this is truly hard one to discribe, which gives you all the more reason to check this out. I can't tell you one person who I've played this for who hasn't been blown away by it - No matter what your music tastes - it's creepy / sad / hopeful / uplifting / mysterious / I could go on and on. I'm very moved by this record - the more you listen the more you get sucked into it's twists and turns. Basically, a truly beautiful record.

5.0 out of 5 stars the beats draw you in..., December 19, 2007
This review is from: Vincent & Mr Green (Audio CD)
under the ipecac label, this fits right in. i don't know where these two came from but Vincent and Mr. Green sure do know what they are doing in terms of beats and vocals. their construction of songs is strange and unique. it's not as strange as john zorn's parachute years though. this is an album that can be replayed over and over.

4.0 out of 5 stars unique and intoxicating, March 9, 2007
This review is from: Vincent & Mr Green (Audio CD)
i love this album. if you haven't heard samples, i think it sounds like elements of jazz and hip-hop. the music is very loose and full, often dreamy. everything follows the lead of the unique vocal lines and the beats. i highly recommend this album for lovers of all good music.

Such a unique CD...loads of attitude and heart. Ms. Vincent's voice drives me crazy....in a good way. Very talented duo! Saw their show in LA last week in a funky Thai bar. Stunning performance by all...

5.0 out of 5 stars You must hear this album!, October 25, 2004
This review is from: Vincent & Mr Green (Audio CD)
After searching for more and more new music I was curious after having stumbled across Vincent and Mr Greens website. The description provided here fits perfectly with what was delivered to me on their album. I have not stopped listening to it - I hear something new on each listen and Vincent's voice is beyond description.. Far too lovely and dark for words.
I highly recommend anybody to buy this album.
