Great Teaching Tool,

This review is from: Vincent [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Very few movies or plays touch the viewer like this gem. Nimoy pours himself into the role of Theo van Gogh, the grieving brother of the misunderstood artist, and Theo pours out his heart and memories to an audience of Vincent's friends and critics. In this one-man show, a true work of art in itself, Nimoy tells Vincent's life story as only a brother could, while behind him on a screen Vincent's sketches and masterpieces are constantly projected. As with Nimoy's series "IN SEARCH OF..." and "ANCIENT MYSTERIES" this video is both educational and entertaining. I have shared it with both Art classes and Theatre Art classes, and the students remembered more about Van Gogh after one viewing of this video than a week's worth of textbook lectures. The Theatre Arts--once getting over the "SPOCK" issue--were captivated and learned from the actor's abilities. In my belief, this is one for the School Library as well as the home library.

I had been looking for this tape for a number of years after first seeing it on one of the educational or arts channels. This is apparently NOT listed in www.imdb.com, which is a great pity. We watched this again with several friends and were absolutely enthralled by Mr. Nimoy's presentation of Van Gogh's life, which he contextualized superbly. I highly recommend this video.
