2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
After reading all the reviews, I was really excited to finally obtain my own copy of "Vincent van Gogh: The Complete Works (CD-ROM)". However, I am very disappointed with the quality of images. The capacity of a CD-Rom is 700MB, the CD only occupies 224MB; clearly the pictures can be saved in a much higher quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars A superbly produced and presented CD-ROM database, April 9, 2002
This review is from: Vincent van Gogh: The Complete Works (CD-ROM)
David Brooks' Vincent Van Gogh: The Complete Works is a superbly produced and presented CD-ROM database featuring high quality images of every single piece of Vincent van Gogh's surviving artwork, man reproduced in color and available to the general public for the first time. Also included is a detailed biography of Van Gogh as well as a chronological timeline for the major events in his life. The text information is available in English, Spanish, Dutch, and Italian. Brooks takes full advantage of all the interactive capabilities of CD-ROM technology to provide a complete "user friendly" interface. The result is the most advanced and interactive catalogue, commentary, and database (2200 primary records) ever published, thereby making Vincent Van Gogh: The Complete Works an essential acquisition for any personal, professional, academic, or community library art history reference collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bravo David Brooks - The Complete Works is Incredible, December 24, 2002

Outstanding! At first I thought a CDRom would lack the warmth of a book. This CDRom is on fire. What an achievement and what a treasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive database for admirers of Van Gogh., December 16, 2002
This review is from: Vincent van Gogh: The Complete Works (CD-ROM)
Whether for the newcomer, enthusiast or student, David Brooks's CD-ROM cannot be bettered as an accessible and stimulating resource. Many images - such as the Van Gogh Museum's version of 'Vincent's Bedroom in Arles' - are supported by informative commentary. Where possible, Brooks adds full details of ownership, display and the specific letters in which Van Gogh mentions the painting, drawing or sketch. It is a delight to witness rarely-seen works from private collections and others that previously one had only read about. Added bonuses are the very clear chronology and biography that David Brooks provides. This CD-ROM both broadens and deepens one's knowledge of The Master and is excellent value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars One great Art Resource, March 8, 2004
By
This review is from: Vincent van Gogh: The Complete Works (CD-ROM)
This is a truly superb CD-Rom! I've used this information as a teaching resource and to help my own understanding of Van Gogh. I must admit I've never really seen a better collection of letters and drawings that span the entire life and work of Van Gogh in my life.

I've tried finding the same information in text books but it is just not the same. And the information is not as complete as can be found in this CD-Rom. I highly recommend this Cd-Rom for anyone interested in Vincent Van Gogh. Kudos to David Brooks!

This review is from: Vincent van Gogh: The Complete Works (CD-ROM)
I have owned this CD for several months now and have completely enjoyed it. I find this CD to be a useful tool - not only in answering questions I might have but in helping my children do assignments in school. It is very easy to navigate and the pictures are top quality. A very smart addition to any library.

5.0 out of 5 stars genius of van gogh, August 31, 2005
This review is from: Vincent van Gogh: The Complete Works (CD-ROM)
The popular view of Van Gogh is so narrow, mainly concentrating on his sunflowers, his suicide or his 'insanity'. If you read his letters and get this CD, you'll get a more complete understanding of what he was trying to do in terms of color and expression.
This CD allows you to sort out his complete works by chronology, drawings, landscapes, portraits, and provides size, date, medium and comments from the letters and cross references.
This is a must for anyone interested in getting a full picture of the genius Van Gogh.

5.0 out of 5 stars MEET VAN GOGH IN A BOOK, October 1, 2002
By
This review is from: Vincent van Gogh: The Complete Works (CD-ROM)
I have read above book in Greek and although I have to admit my knowledge concerning art is poor, I was fascinated.

Excellent presentation. Touching writing, real documents from Van Gogh's life. You can spend hours on each page looking at the paintings, the conception of using those thick lines of paint to creat this amazing result.

You meet Van Gogh in this book. You meet the man, the perfection of the artist's and his madness and I'm sure that this madness is to be blamed for the artist's blooming!
