A Glass of Wine, and this book,
By Richard Katz (Richmond California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vine to Wine (Hardcover)
Vine to Wine is a picture book in widescreen format; the photographs are about 8.5 inches wide by about 6 inches high, and they cover borderlessly the leftfacing pages. This allows Dr Lyon to capture the essential outdoorsiness of his subject, grapevines and viticulture, as performed in the Napa Valley and environs. The accompanying facing text is sometimes little more than a caption, and sometimes an entire explanatory essay, but never more than one of those same size pages, on the rightfacing side of the book. Together, the photos and the text make a perfect accompaniment to a good glass of wine enjoyed by oneself. Should you be so lucky as to be enjoying a really good glass of wine, and enjoying it in the company of another person sitting next to you on the couch or at the bar of the tasting room, Lyon's book will take on a dimension that you have rarely experienced before: You'll be tasting something while you think about it and visualize its creation. Try it. It will only work with a book like this, with its masterful photographs and VERY readable text.

PHOTO ESSAY ON PLANTING A VINEYARD,
By
This review is from: Vine to Wine (Hardcover)
A magnificant photo essay of planning and planting a vineyard seen through the camera of a medical doctor, turned wine grower/wine maker. Shows you exactly what it is like from selection of rootstocks, preparation of the site, vine spacing, cover crops, irrigation on through the small lot wine-making process. I think it would be really helpful for anyone interested in growing grapes.
