5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book for a deeper understanding of Bible truth.
Vine's Expository Dictionary gives excellent word pictures and meanings of the original languages found in the Word of God. It is a resource book that every preacher should have for preparing sermons for their local body of believers. Nothing helps make the Scripture come alive for listeners like a clearer understanding of what the writers of the books of the Bible...

2.0 out of 5 stars Could be better reletivily speaking
There is nothing wrong with this dictionary. But recently I have found other bible dictionaries that are much better. Instead I recommend the bible dictionaries by IVP press who share alot more information. They have a whole set of them. They are a little bit more expensive but much better than the Vines... the three best ones are the folowing, Dictionary of the Old...

Vine's Expository Dictionary gives excellent word pictures and meanings of the original languages found in the Word of God. It is a resource book that every preacher should have for preparing sermons for their local body of believers. Nothing helps make the Scripture come alive for listeners like a clearer understanding of what the writers of the books of the Bible were trying to present through their choice of certain words in the Greek and Hebrew languages. This book opens the door of understanding of the original languages of the Bible.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book. A must have, December 7, 2006
This review is from: Vine's Expository Dictionary Of Old And New Testament Words (Hardcover)
This is an excellent book. However I agree with a previous comment that it's better to have also Strong's concordance. I do not agree with "Athens" comment giving an evaluation of only two stars. Vine's expository dictionary is giving excellent definitions and explanations, at least for the NT Greek words, and I know what I am talking about as I studied ancien Greek for 6 years...in GREECE!! Therefore, there is only one possible recommendation: BUY IT ...together with Strong's concordance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still One of The Best Out There, September 15, 2007
This review is from: Vine's Expository Dictionary Of Old And New Testament Words (Hardcover)
I was given this book years ago when I first started having an interest in Koine Greek and NT word studies. It has been invaluable in providing precise meanings, as well as context and clarity in the study of NT Greek words. Yes, there are more thorough and detailed books out there, but I think for those at the beginner to intermediate level of Greek study, this book is one of the best of its kind, and should be a useful resource for years to come.

For those looking to get into deeper waters of NT Greek, I recommend the New Linguistic and Exegetical Key to the Greek New Testament, by Cleon Rogers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best Expository Dictionary that I know !!!, November 22, 2000
A Kid's Review
Flavio F. Lima - ( livifla@bol.com.br ) - The only thing that I don't liked was the little words of the Old Testament in it. However, this famous Dictionary is my guide when I need to understand the true meaning of the greek words. Yes every Bible student must have it in your personal library. It is an excellent reference work !

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource, July 21, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Honestly, I prefer my Thayer Lexicon, BUT...
Vine's is perfect for if you do not know any Greek or Hebrew (Thayer requires a basic knowledge of the Greek alphabet). You look up the English word, and it tells you the different Greek/Hebrew words (with references) that were translated as the English word (For example, looking up the word "Love" will show you the Greek words Agape, Philo, and any other instances that were translated as "Love").
While it's not usually the first book I reach for, it is a must for a study collection.
