5.0 out of 5 stars TREMENDOUS COLLECTION OF NOSE ART PHOTOGRAPHS
Phenomenal book for the ages. Valant does an incredible job not only preserving the rich history of WWII nose art, and whenever possible, he also list Bomb Groups and Squadrons to accompany the photographs. THIS IS A COLLECTION OF PHOTOGRAPHS, not a lot of written material on the history of WWII pinups. This is a great collection for the collector as it also has...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice book
Great pictures here, a pitty that the most of them are in B/W but in general they're great.
This book is very similar to "Aircraft Nose Art: From World War I to Today (Motorbooks Classics) by Jeffrey Ethell" that in fact is better, but the couple would be the perfect buying!
:D

THIS IS A COLLECTION OF PHOTOGRAPHS, not a lot of written material on the history of WWII pinups. This is a great collection for the collector as it also has some pictures of the old A-2 Leather bombers with the pin-up art painted on them as well. Easily worth the money. Get it before it goes out of print.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for all Aviation buffs., March 17, 1999
By A Customer
This book is excelent! The first time I looked through this book it was like going through a time machine. To sell all of those black, white, and color photos, and thinking that the majority of the airplanes where shot down was very majestic. Then I turned to one page and it had a photo of a B-29 named "Were Wolf" and I remember seeing that exact photo at my granfather's house, the nose art was from my grandfather's brother's plane. It's an honor to have his plane's photo in the book. This book is a must have for all aviation buffs.

5.0 out of 5 stars One great book, August 21, 2003

This review is from: Vintage Aircraft Nose Art (Motorbooks Classic) (Paperback)
I have always had a great interest in WWII bombers and fighters. In addition to this my, step-uncle was a 1st Lt. Co-pilot on a B-17 stationed in Deenethorpe, England and flew 30 missions between 6/44 & 11/44 in the 615th B.S. of the 401stBG (H). I purchased this book after reading the good reviews it had. I was very impressed with the book. There are B&W pictures of nose art on B-17's, B-24's, B-29's, B-26's, B-25's, A-26's, P-51's, C-47's, C-87's, P-38's, P-47's, P-61's. There are also some color pictures and also there are some pictures of the back of a few flight jackets. The pictures are 99% bombers. This is a picture book with info below the pictures if available.

I recently purchased this book for my dad for Christmas. He is a WWII buff, so the book was great for him. There are a few naughty pictures but nothing too bad. Just enough to make him laugh and keep the book from my mom!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bits of History, December 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vintage Aircraft Nose Art (Motorbooks Classic) (Paperback)
This book is a great collection of airplane nose art as it relates to a period in US history. It portrays the toughness, camraderie and in a sense the longings of the of the air crews. They were allowed to create this nose art in order to enhance morale and build an air crew team. It was one of those little ideas that worked. Because of how the military operates today we will never again see nose aircraft art like this. Additionally, through this book I was able to see a picture of a plane that I know from a letter written by the Captain of the aircraft as to what happened to it when it finally crashed in the English Channel. A great way to close the information loop. Plus it is just plain fun to look at it.
