“A great photo introduction and quick reference to performance cars built prior to 1946 … It is a quick and entertaining history course and a handy reference. Well done and a useful addition to the enthusiasts library.”

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice pictures, May 5, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Vintage Cars: The Finest Prewar Automobiles (Hardcover)
Very nice pictures of a variety of cars. Not artistic photos like Dennis Adler presents, but clear photographs against a blank white background. Not a lot of substance in the written material, but the photographs are worth the price of admission.

My one criticism involves the rather broad choice of cars. The cars are presented alphabetically, rather than being organized thematically. It would not have taken a great deal of effort to provide some sort of overview information that helped illustrate the evolution of car design within this period, rather than just present an apparently random collection of cars.

Finally, I was hoping to see more of the glamorous cars from the 30s, and there were some surprising omissions (such as the Le Baron Cadillacs) from this period.

2.0 out of 5 stars RLB, April 17, 2009

This review is from: Vintage Cars: The Finest Prewar Automobiles (Hardcover)
The 'high tech straight-eight' picture on page 73 should be interchanged with the 'supercharged superlative' picture on page 77 to reduce confusion; some confusion still exists in the page titles and text. Pages 74-75 are all about the model J, but the car shown is an SJ (unless specified otherwise the flex exhaust pipes go with the supercharged engine). Page 72 is titled model J, but the yellow car is an SJ.

Aside from confusion in photo and text layout the grouping into five views, milestones, under the skin, and specs provides concise and useful info.
