This is the best CD I have heard.,

I am a collector of rare audio, I find cultural relics in the form of old recordings fascinating. I enjoy putting myself into the mindset of past times, it gives life to cultural history, plus the scratchy hollowness and distortion of old records creates a pleasing gothic effect. Together with old religious recordings ones for children are my favorite and I've wished for a CD just like this one for a long time. There's nothing I would change about this CD. The selection is excellent. The mood it creates is so effective that I first heard it on Halloween when someone used it to create atmosphere for trick-o-treaters! I would certainly reccomend it.

Hard to Find Favorites,
This review is from: Vintage Children's Favorites (1926 - 1950) (Audio CD)
This cd is chock full of tunes you may remember from when you were a child. Chances are that many of them were already vintage tunes even then. But try to find a good recording of Teddy Bear's Picnic and Ragtime Cowboy Joe. The recordings range from the '20s to the '50s, and it's interesting to see how much we have lost in children's music. Nostalgic and fun.

I like this cd for my 13 month old son, but it makes his grandparents even happier. A good overall choice.

Great sharing of parents and grandparents favorites with children,
This review is from: Vintage Children's Favorites (1926 - 1950) (Audio CD)
I was searching for CD's with some of the songs I grew up with, and my parents grew up with, so that my children could share in our memories. I was also looking for songs that were not in the usual children's music CD's and especially not in the normal whiney pitch. This is all that and more. What I especially liked was that it was original recordings, so you don't get tired of the album being all 1 tone - it is as if you have a lot of little albums each with their own sounds. Also, some of the tunes I wasn't familiar with, but enjoy now too. But, I guess, the question is, do the children like it: oh, yes. My son has his monthly favorite for requesting over and over again. And I know that this music has enough facets to it, that he will enjoy and discover the different aspects as he grows older. I am buying it now for other people.

Take a trip down memory lane - back to your childhood, in fact, back to your father's or even grandfather's childhood. What a wonderful collection of songs - odd, funny, delightful and simply wonderful! 'The laughing policeman' took me back many years to my childhood when I first heard it and found it contagiously hilarious - difficult not to laugh along. 'Barnacle Bill the Sailor', 'The Prune Song' and so many others, many of which I don't recall ever having heard before, are simply wonderful and so much fun. I ordered this CD to help me to destress after a nerve-wracking day at the office, and it works wonders. I lent it to my friend to play for her five year old son - and you can't fool kids - no pretense or protestations about the songs being out of date - he simply loved it. Do yourself a favour - get it for your kids, and introduce them to a simple, uncomplicated time, attitude and feel that has gone forever.

Too vintage for me,

This collection might appeal to vintage radio enthusiasts, but it was too strange for my taste. Many of the recordings (like "Grandfather's Clock") sound rather operatic, not good for sing-a-longs, which I hoped they would be. I was disappointed.
