5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing and comforting, October 5, 2000

Slim Whitman is a wonderful singer. His voice is unique, as is his wonderful yodeling style. The music itself is from the good old days and is quite peppy and positive. I find that I feel very good when I listen to his music. The style is amazingly simple, but simplicity often improves things. Even his songs that are supposed to be sad have a happy sound to them. You can hear pre-rock-and-roll or early rockabilly style in some of the songs, since these were made in the late 40's and early 50's.

I love every song on this album. I'm sure his other albums are also excellent.

I highly recommend this album!

before you consider buying any slim, i suggest you go no further than his early recordings. the man simply lays down the maddest tracks on this album. i am not even a country fan, but slim nails it on this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thanks, Tim B.!, February 21, 2006

After viewing my "Mars Attacks" DVD (I hadn't seen the movie during it's theatrical release), I HAD to push the "pause" button when the music credits rolled over the screen. At first I thought Tim B.'s final weapon against agressive little green marsians was some special effect, recorded solely for the movie... and then, searching Amazon on the words "Slim Whitman", I got THIS! Really amazing, voice AND style: this man apparently sang without overacting nor pouring out of tons of jelly: just plain goodhearted singing. Especially the teaming up with the electric Hawaiian steel guitar results in a really "outer space" sound... OK, the high end of those amazing sounds tends to have some distortion, especially on the oldest records, but still... probably the recording equipment of those days simply wasn't made for such extremes...
