Editorial Reviews

Review

"London-based The Vintage Showroom's recently released book, Vintage Menswear is Tumblr-style porn on paper, and if ever there were a heritage book Take Ivy-heads might clamor for unabashedly, it's this one." - Esquire

"...a crash course on what's what in decades-old duds...Vintage Menswear [is] a valuable resource for collectors and buyers alike to further educate themselves on the finer details of these garments." - Chadner Navarro, Nylon Guys

"...a nice addition to a personal library, particularly for people who appreciate workwear, vintage clothing, and men's clothing design." - Derek Guy, Put This On

"...basically porn for anyone interested in both history and men's clothing." - CoolMaterial.com

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but Disappointing November 3, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
The book is well designed and produced, but ultimately I was disappointed in the coverage. The items included very little-- indeed, hardly any-- what one would consider "fashion". The chapters are "Sports and Leisure", "Military", and "Workwear", and these areas are well and beautifully represented. But aside from the occasional Norfolk jacket, there is really no everyday clothing shown. Where is a sack suit, opera cape, top hat, or everyday shirt and trousers? What did bankers, tradesmen, farmers, etc. wear on the way to work, on their time off, or to church?

Well worth it if you are interested in the areas covered or in really nice book design. Otherwise, not so much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Its all in the beautiful details. September 21, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I had been hoping that this book would be as detailed as it is and I am not remotely dissapointed, I had to wait a while for this book as the release date kept being delayed but this is a fantastic book invaluable to Fashion Designers/Students of costume.
I really am very impressed with the quality of the photography and the clothes included...someone now needs to get working on a Vintage Womens-wear !
