I'm really not sure what Disney is trying to do here. They've been giving us the outstanding Disney Treasures Sets in waves but then also releasing many of the same toons on other DVDs. Take this Vintage Mickey set. Great toons to be sure, but Seven of the nine toons are already on the Mickey in Black & White volume one. The other two toons, "The Castaway" and "Mickey's Steamroller" are on Mickey in Black & White volume two.

Now, the first volume is out of print evidently but you can still find it on the secondary market. I've even still seen it in a local Mediaplay store. I'd highly recommend those two sets for any Mickey or Disney fan over shelling out the cash for this lower rent DVD.

While this does have vintage Mickey toons from 1928's Steamboat Willie to 1935's Mickey's Service Station, I would not call these the best 9 tunes of that era. I would have put "The Gorilla Mystery" and "The Dognapper" in there before some of these others. It's a good set but I recommend picking up the two Disney Treasures sets if you are a real die-hard fan.

I was hoping for a great collection of vintage and rare Mickey Mouse cartoons. That's not what I got. Steam Boat Willy was shown with a large black boarder surrounding the cartoon. I assume it was so the entire frame could be seen. Cartoons two and three were complete rare sound films. However the remaining cartoons were not original prints. The openings were created electronically. The cartoons were very enjoyable but don't expect a collection of all original prints.

My 10 year old loves watching vintage cartoons. This was perfect for him, and his younger brothers like watching cartoons that were around even before their grandparents :)

This standalone release was made for the 50th anniversary of the original Mickey Mouse Club in 2005, and it features 9 of Mickey's greatest shorts from the days of black-and-white, including 2 Oscar nominees; Mickey's Orphans (1931) and Building A Building (1933). There's lots of other great shorts from such an era, but this too, is an hour-long release, like Disney's Classic Cartoon Favorites collection. Also in here are the very first appearances of Mickey and Minnie; Steamboat Willie and Plane Crazy from 1928, and that of Goofy (as an old-coot-type Dippy Dawg) in Mickey's Revue from 1932! Other than commercials, there aren't any real bonuses in here, even for Disneyland's 50th anniversary (besides 2 commercials). Unfortunately, this is in the Disney Vault, along with the Treasures tins and 4 Disneytoon collections from 2005 to 2007. Like I keep saying, just be thankful for what you already have, as Disney doesn't seem to bother making new DVDs and Blu-ray discs of classic shorts other than Mickey's Christmas Carol. If you wanted to learn of Mickey and Minnie's early years, Vintage Mickey is a great place to start!

This DVD is definately the best! I had always wanted Disney's Vinatge. And in case any of those reading these reviews, these movies or clips of Disney are some of the originals from the 1930's. That's part of the reason it is vintage. I am sorry that people cannot appreciate the Artistry and imagination of this DVD without the fancy probes and lasers etc of today. This is truly a great DVD!

I love Vintage Mickey! It clearly shows where he was born, what his basic personality traits are, and where it all started! Definitely 5 Stars!

I am not "the film expert" nor Mickey critic but I know what good cartoon is. This collection of Walt's earlier work represented his creativity and talent in animation without the utilization of high-tech. computer animation. It is pure "old school" cartoon animation by hand! As a family, we all enjoyed the comedy and musical apects of the old Mickey cartoons. I recommend it for family viewing and for pure fun!

This is an awesome collection! My family and I first saw these shorts on the Disney Fantasy, so watching them at home brings back lovely memories. Fun watching my 6 year old daughter snuggled up with dad and giggling at the antics of Mickey, Minnie and co!
