A child prodigy, Katouzian received no formal training since his widowed mother had no means of providing it. Katouzian's talent was soon recognized, however, even though his teachers at school at first did not believe the artwork he brought to show them was his own. He began working in a painting workshop at the age of 19 and is now internationally acclaimed as a true master.
