Editorial Reviews

(1) Back of the Mike (1938) - Great film showing how the sound effects we here on the radio are were made in old days. Wonderful footage of actors recording an old western radio show. (2) Hear and Now (1958) - Radio propaganda film about how radio is changing the face of American and all of its benefits including the rapid speed for the distribution of information and the amazing types of radio broadcasts, such as comedy, sports, group discussions, and political speeches. (3) Independent Radio Station (1951) - Military produced film about a privately owned and operated radio station, WMCA in NYC (bizarre to say the least why this was funded by the U.S. government). Gives a great look at all the operations of a radio station when they were small family like operations. (4) Network Broadcasting (1934) - Fascinating silent film that explains how the radio networks in the 1930's were dependent upon telephone networks. Lots of great footage of old telephone and radio transition equipment. (5) On The Air (1937) - Film uses a live in studio orchestra performance to help explain the basics of radio broadcasting. Great old technical film full of footage of old radio towers and equipment. (6) Radio and Television (1940) - Vocational based film that explores all of the jobs available in radio broadcasting. Also discusses how training and skill are needed in this growing industry as well as for the emerging television industry. (7) WJR ~ One Of A Kind (1966) - Film about WJR radio station in Detroit. Great film full of history, radio personalities, and great footage of sporting events and in studio live radio shows. (8) Largest Radio Transmitter Dedication (1950s) - Short film covering the dedication of the worlds new largest radio transmitter.
