What a happy surprise to see a book like this back in print!,
By Susan Trexel "almond_cakes" (Near the great state of Idaho) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vintage Valentines (Press Out Book) (Paperback)
I was at Borders yesterday and while walking through the children's section, happened to see this book on the Valentine book display table. I couldn't believe such a book was in print again, and of course bought it, for the price is GREAT...only $4.99 for 25 Valentine cards. I have seen vintage books like these, some not even complete, go for $40 or more on ebay.
I collect vintage Valentine cards and have quite a few. I bought these because I like to have old-fashioned looking cards for my children and myself to send to relatives and friends. My children are homeschooled, and so never have had a school Valentine party where they needed Valentines to trade. I was always glad, because the ugly offerings we see in the stores really disappoint...who really wants a Sponge Bob valentine??? This book is very nice for children. The cards have fuzzy flocking on them, like was popular years ago. The cards are very very easy for a child to punch out. Some require a fold or two, some require inserting a tab into a slot, like the cute one of the ducky in the washtub of water. The book also includes cutouts to make 8 envelopes for the cards you would want to put in an envelope. Overall, these cards are just so pleasant to look at, with cute Valentine sayings; I can't imagine any child, adult, or grandparent not being happy to receive one of these cards. And they are easy enough that a child feels like he is "making" something, yet it isn't complicated at all. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves vintage Valentines or who wants a better alternative to the modern Valentine card offerings.

I wish the nicer kids Valentines would come back!,

This book was very nostalgic for me as these were the nice, fun, with sweet sayings and just plain cute Valentine's that were from my era. At 57 I'm raising another child...four years old now...and I will continue to search for like products for her to share with her friends and classmates. They will make memories for her and bring back fond memories to me. Publishers take note...give us quality...or at least the choice.

Loved these old fashioned Valentines,

They were just like the valentines when I was little-in the 60's. A reminder of a kinder, gentler time and valentines for everyone in the class. You do have to make your own envelopes-just like in grade school. So they don't work too well for mailing, but I made a garland out of several strung together and loved it.

Vintage Valentines (Press Out Book),

I enjoyed displaying such a fun vintage item for Valentine's Day; my childhood was in the 40s and early 50s
and greeting cards of that era bring happy memories. My only complaint about the book was that the Valentines fell out too easily, if I wanted the book intact. I would like to see similar vintage products for other holidays and seasons.

Just like when you were a kid!,

I used these to go on the tables for my wedding reception back last year in February. All the guests loved them and since we were an older couple, our friends that were our age, remembered them.....just like we did.
It gave a really nice touch to the tables & guests were encouraged to take them home as an additional keepsake.

So sweet!,

I found these online last year and purchased them for my daughter to give to her 3 year old preschool class. I loved that they were not the character/product types like the ones you find in the stores. Those are pretty ugly- these are actually quite beautiful. They are old fashioned and sweet. The fact that they are punch-out and sometimes need a bit of easy assembling make them fun to "make". The price can't be beat for the number of valentines you get!

Truly these are all very cute valentine's cards. I was disappointed that there were only 8 envelopes. I had thought there were equal numbers. Some of the cards were just folded over and a small heart tab holds them closed, but others needed an envelope because of the cute 3-d pieces that were added to them, and there were more than 8 that needed to be in an envelope. I am glad I purchased this, but wish I had known and I could have bought additional envelopes at the store.

Very Retro Cute!,
By GenXMom "javawaitress" (Buffalo, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vintage Valentines (Press Out Book) (Paperback)
This book is full of adorable, retro valentines. Love the 1940-ish color scheme. I helped my daughter punch them out and was surprised that it contained more valentines than I had realized because its a thin book. If you plan on giving them to people, the drawback is that you have to cut-out and glue your own envelopes for them as envelopes are included but not assembled. However overall these are higher quality than today's kid Valentines so I think it's a good value for a cute, good-quality product.

These valentines are made with heavier paper suitable for their "punch-out" format. I plan to use them as little add-ons in correspondence to my adult friends until they are gone. Then I plan to order another of these valentine books to enjoy during the next valentine holiday. They are a pleasant return to what was fun about grade school. A joyful visit to the child's heart in us all.

Old fashoned valentines,

The book includes approximately 25 vintage valentines. Most appear to be reproductions of valentines from the late 40's to the early 60's. (I personally prefer valentines from the Victorian era but these are difficult to find so I use these cards.) They are good quality reproductions from the period indicated. They are easy to remove from the book, i.e., to "punch out" of the pages and envelopes are provided if one wishes to cut them out with scissors and tape or paste them together (I don't usually bother doing this - I just use regular envelopes - but this is not a real draw back since cutting out the envelopes and using them can be fun if one has the manual dexterity it takes and doesn't mind spending the time.) For school age children this would likely be a fun arts & crafts activity for valentines day. Colors are bright and sharp and the cards make a fun variation on the more contemporary valentine cards sold in stores - and they are a whole lot less expensive! In summary, a fun variation on valentines day cards and certainly worth the price. This is the fifth or sixth year that I have purchased these books of cards for use with the children (and some older adults) that I send valentines cards to. A good buy
