Hartmut Rohde is not a household name--OK, how many violists are?! He delivers solid performances, both technically and musically, of some of the most standard viola repertoire. Thanks to Ars Nova to making this so affordable--every viola student should consider this a must-have, and it is an enjoyable and wise purchase for any collection.

I have ordered this disc via Amazon twice now and twice I have received jewel cases/discs that LOOKED like they were supposed to look, but that contained totally different music. No J.C. Bach...no Telemann...no solo violas...just a bunch of more modern classical tracks.
Obviously, not an Amazon issue per se, as the discs came recorded this way from the manufacturer, no doubt--but disappointing none the less.
Am waiting to see if Amazon can resolve this for me, but, be forewarned, the issue exists.

My fifth grade granddaughter is studying the viola. Her teacher recommended that she listen to recordings of viola music so that she could get an idea of what the instrument can do when it is well played. These Telemann viola concertos are ideal, and the fit nicely with my own love of music from the baroque period.

It's a good CD, well-produced, but most importantly, the violist in our family loves it. The cover pic is a bit creepy and for some reason is reprinted on the back, on the CD, et cetera, and is thus inescapable. Just close your eyes while you listen to the beautiful works (in particular by Hindemith, Telemann and Bach) and all will be well.
