Book Description

September 13, 2011
Millions of people are attacked, exposed and violated on the Internet. A lawsuit filed against Steven Wyer's business destroyed his company and his credibility. His reputation was ruined because of the Internet. He learned that innocent until proven guilty is a myth, especially in the digital world. The online postings hurt his family, his income and his future. Since this battle, he has talked to hundreds of people with similar stories. Their narratives would sound like fiction were it not for the fact that he has helped many of them reclaim their lives through his company, Reputation Advocate. The American government has passed laws that leave its citizens open to be maligned with impunity by accusers-both real and fictitious. While most people use the internet, they do not know how to protect themselves against slander. Tragically, there is no one to protect us. We have to do it ourselves.Violated Online will help any person understand the defense strategies needed to survive online exposure and how to take action now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great real world examples April 6, 2012

I enjoyed reading "Violated Online" with all the real world examples. It was good to read on what is happening online at the moment, and what you can do if a situation arises so that it doesn't turn into a snowball. Thanks Jeremy for the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye-opening! November 5, 2011
By rmiller
Format:Paperback
For someone who is not very "tech savvy", this book has been a Godsend! It is so informative, very precise and to the point! All eleven chapters are equally excellent, offering simple, but profound things to remember and implement! I would highly recommend this book to ANYONE who has any reason to believe they could be violated online. As the author, Steve Wyer, says, "If you think you are safe...think again!"

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for anyone online November 1, 2011
By jpshep
Format:Paperback
I read this book before publication and knew it was a must read for anyone using the Internet. There are so many opportunities for abuse, everyone needs to look carefully at where they go and what information they share.

I've shared my book with several of my friends and will continue to post notices on my site and on my Facebook page. It truly is an easy read and the take-away is tremendous.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definately a must have book October 31, 2011
Format:Paperback
I purchased this book because I have had experiences with my own business and personal life that appeared online that were less than flattering. Even though nearly all of the things posted about me and my business were untrue, I didn't know how to fight it and just accepted it as something that I had to deal with. I know now that something can be done.

Steve Wyer's book is very well written and easily understood. In my opinion anyone that has or plans to have an online presence should know how to protect and/or repair themselves. This book shows you how to do it. I highly recommend it.

Regards,

John Strant

5.0 out of 5 stars A dose of reality on the virtual version of "ME" October 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed reading this book. I enjoyed how the book built to create a real sense of urgency to act. As someone who is immersed in the online way of life I understand the concepts, am familiar with many of the sites but never really took the time to think about the gravity of negative information for me personally. As the book progresses, I found myself more compelled to act. And while it is written in a way that outlines the basics for the most amateur player on the web, I continued to find interesting insights. The anecdotal way in which real situations were presented made it a fast read. Many of the stories are stories I could easily put myself or friends and family into and that created a sense of personal connection for me as I read.

As my career has focused on improving customer service and loyalty in retail, I find this strange phenomenon occurring on the web that I can't figure out how to wrap my arms around. While readers search for service, etc. they look to consumer reviews. While they have never met the poster, they for some reason believe their opinion like they are some sort of an expert simply because they took 30 seconds to post an opinion online. You have no idea of their history, reputation, experience, relationship to the business....but yet we believe them as their word is pure truth. And like the book points out, in all reality people don't take the time to learn if this is factual or not they simply believe.

I suppose if I had to summarize the key insights I took away it was that managing and controlling my virtual resume is absolutely essential to managing my future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of Information. April 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book has a lot of information, and is well written.

The reason I have not given it five stars, was because it seems to be focused a lot on prevention, which I agree is vital.

It is very difficult to work out who to contact, and as these events can be international, it can be complicated knowing what to do once the event has occurred.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wild Wild West February 5, 2013
Format:Paperback
This book written by Steven Wyer and Jeremy Dunlap clearly shows the problems with the internet right now. People can say anything they want about anyone or any company anonymously and don't have to worry about a recourse. Sometimes the original author of the slander can't even remove it after they have calmed down. The author Steven Wyer provides a good overview on what is going on right now and the consequences of people actions online.

5.0 out of 5 stars Midianes Garcia November 17, 2012
Format:Paperback
We all may be victims sooner or later of the invasion of privacy the modern world and internet has caused.
Sometimes invasion is accompanied with hate and greed, thieves and snakes who are so miserable with their
lives that they want to make others feel the same. Online violation is the latest trend. Protect yourself from
your neighbors who envy your style, from your closest enemies. Wear the required gear to combat the demonic
society the internet has created.

Steven Wyer is an expert in the subject of Slander, don't let it happen to you and if already did come out of it.
