Humbling,
By Kirk Phillips (Simpsonville, SC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Violent Grace (Hardcover)
This book will not only take you to the cross, but will take you through the agony that led to that horrible place. Michael Card brings the story of Christ's torture and crucifixion to life in this wonderful book. You cannot go away from this book without having your love for Christ, and the work he did for us on the cross, renewed. If you truly love Christ, this book will bring you to your knees in adoration for what He did to save His people from their sins.

Inspiring,

I was moved as I read Michael Card's reflections on the crucifixion of Christ. He makes the crucifixion not only a theologically necessary event, but a personal action taken by the Father and the Son to restore us to a relationshiop with them and to demonstrate the amazing love they have for us. As I read, I felt like I was a witness to the events surrounding the trial and crucifixion of the Lord. Michael describes in detail the events leading up to the crucifixion, the suffering that Jesus endured, and the victory that was won. An amazing book! I would highly recommed it. What an awesome book to read as we approach the Passover and Easter season.

Michael Card does an excellent job of describing the passion of Christ. This book provides plenty of devotional thoughts, but the highlights for me were the several places where I learned something new about the crucifixion. Card adds the input of a scholar to this work.

Talented Author and Musician,
By Mark K. Wickersham "Wick" (Tianjin, China) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Violent Grace (Hardcover)
I was gifted with this small book by my in-laws one Christmas several years ago. Despite being 180+ pages, A Violent Grace is a super fast read. Each one of the 21 chapters begins with Scripture and ends with a prayer. Additionally, each chapter starts off with a picture depicting a scene from the life of Christ. The purpose of the book is to help you see the scene of the violent execution of the Jesus as well as the source of His limitless grace. He was born to die so we could be born to new life. He was wounded so we could be healed. His heart was pierced so our hearts could be made whole. We are made to be followers who lead by His example. Although A Violent Grace is endorsed by a couple of authors who I am not the biggest fans of, I do highly recommend Michael Card's book.

This book offered so much insight into the plight of Christ at the cross. I started with a library copy but found that I wanted to hightlight passages and so rushed to buy my own. It was a wonderful read that I would recommend to anyone - new and old Christians alike. I will be buying many more copies to give as gifts. Many heartfelt thanks to Michael Card for putting his thoughts on paper.

A Deep Look at an Amazing Gift,
By Lover of Books (Eagan, MN United States) - See all my reviews

This is a deep intimate look at the hard road taken by Jesus. He is asked to not only give up his life to save others but at the cost of losing his relationship with his Father for awhile. Michael Card sets it all before you in twenty-one chapters. Taking each moment, one at a time, so that you can absorb it fully. It felt so good to read about this as we enter the holidays. Many people know the true meaning of Christmas and this reminded me why that is so important. At first, I took one chapter a day but I wanted to finish a book this month. I found that it didn't matter how you read it as long as you took some quiet time to reflect on what was shown in the book. I've had this book for a very long time and am so glad I finally picked it up. I definitely want to read more by this author. He truly knows how to express himself whether in song or the written word.
