Another Mitford Gem!,
By A Face From the Past (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Violet Comes to Stay (Mitford for Children, Book 1) (Hardcover)
And so Mitford continues to bless us, this time with fantasy becoming reality, as the first of Cynthia Coppersmith's books comes to life. This tender tale of Violet's earliest days may be aimed at the little tykes, but the message that "God has a plan for each of us," which is intoned by way of the subtle repetition throughout the story, is meant for all ages. If anything, Cecka and McCully have exceeded everything I had envisioned whilst wiling away pleasant hours in Cynthia Coppersmith's mythical studio, and one could truly believe this book came from her pen and brush, were not these two talented ladies' names on the cover. Bravo for all involved in the production of what is now one of my very favorite children's books! It is my sincere hope that we will be blessed with many more from this series.

The feline Violet of the Mitford series comes to life in this wonderful children's book. It's illustrations are so wonderful. Maybe others of my generation will rejoice in the fond memories which the water colors then highlighted with pin and ink provide from elementary school reading books.
The story is gripping one of a cat that is not so into being like the rest of his siblings, not into mice catching. But God has a special place planned out. Well done story with great applications for the young reader to be exposed to. Could become classic? For you and your children, if not all of God's kids! Enjoy!

This review is from: Violet Comes to Stay (Mitford for Children, Book 1) (Hardcover)
I purchased this book for my grand-daughter, and we both found it delightful. My grand-daughter loves kittens, and Violet is very entertaining.
The artwork is outstanding and we enjoyed that as much as the story.

In this book you finally get to meet Cynthia Coppersmith's fantastic Violet. Mother cat is watching as each of her three kittens are adopted by families that suit their personalities...after several attempts at a home, Violet finally finds a home that suits her. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I did.

This is a delightful children's book, with a subtle moral. It could only be written and illustrated by one who loves cats.

Cute illustrations. Story about killing mice was not appealing to my children. They didn't like the book.

Charming Companion to Mitford stories,
By
This review is from: Violet Comes to Stay (Mitford for Children, Book 1) (Hardcover)
those who know and love Father Tim and his stories of Mitford will enjoy this companion piece. This book brings substance to Violet, the white cat that Tim's beloved wife wrote about in her vocation as writer/artist. It is one more "hole" filled in to flesh out the lives and loves of those beloved characters of the Jan Karon series. Read this lovely story to your kids and infuse them with the mystique of Mitford. Violet Comes to Stay should help another generation grow to know and love Mitford. It stays true to the history readers will know of the town of many characters, and goes right along with other companion tales. Enjoy!

Adorable Story Gently Teaches Young Children,
By
This review is from: Violet Comes to Stay (Mitford for Children, Book 1) (Hardcover)
This is a gentle story, beautifully illustrated, about growing up and finding the place one is meant to be. The story of the white kitten Violet and her siblings teaches us that we each have special talents and gifts, and although it may take some trial and error, if we keep seeking, we will find the perfect place to use them. Talking with young children about the story will provide parents opportunities to help them discover their unique gifts/talents/skills, to build confidence, and to set them on that lifelong path of seeking. Plus, it's an adorable story!
