5.0 out of 5 stars What color are your eyes?
Angel Eastland is different. She always has been. And not just because of her violet eyes, either. She lives in Canada, in the year 1987, at least that's what she's been led to believe. Angel hated Michael Vallant for nine years before she met him. She always had to move every couple of years, but no matter where she went Michael Vallant was there before. So when Angel...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for teen-agers, I guess.
The book treats us to a simplistic future world, characters with no complications, ultra-smart super-kids without the "smart" and the "super", and the WORST set of clues left by a bad guy EVER.

So when Angel moved to a town where no one had heard of him, she was thrilled. Until he moved there while she was still there. Angel and Mike immediately start a war with each other, until their common goal brings them together. Escape, ever since they were little Angel and Mike have both wanted out. So when they finally start working together they finally figure out what's been going on. It turns out that the year is actually 2098, and that they are a subspecies of humans. And when a doctor who wants to sell Angel and Mike to the highest bidder decides they aren't worth the trouble, they have to play his games in order to save another of their kind from death. I really liked this book and can't wait for the sequel, Silver Eyes. We really should have known more about Angel sooner since it was from her POV, but not knowing made the book more interesting. The author has a website at http://www.geocities.com/nmluiken/ if you're interested.

4.0 out of 5 stars A pretty good science fiction thriller for teens., January 19, 2001
This review is from: Violet Eyes (Mass Market Paperback)
Angel Eastland is a sixteen-year-old girl growing up in Canada in what she believes in the year 1987. She has never lived in one town for more than a few years, and although her parents are loving, she has always suspected that something strange is going on. And she has always been jealous of Michael Vallant, the boy she never met but who always had been in every town she moved to, but had moved away a year before she arrived. But finally, Angel and Michael's paths collide - and cause a shocking discovery. It's really the late 21st century, and Angel and Michael are among the few survivors of a group of genetically engineered children that the public hated enough to attempt to destroy them completely. And now the twisted scientist who created the children 17 years ago is determined to capture Angel and Michael to use as pawns in his evil scheme. I might have given this book five stars except for the fact that at times it was confusing, and some things in the book seemed to contradict others. For example, Angel is the narrator, and we know her thoughts from early on. No thought of her special abilities are mentioned until halfway through the novel, when she suddenly is revealed to have always known she was different. The novel is still enjoyable, however - it just could have used a little bit more effort to make things mesh together.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Incredible Novel, June 3, 2004
By

This review is from: Violet Eyes (Mass Market Paperback)
This novel takes you on the incredible journey of Angel Eastland and Micheal Vallant as they discover more and more about the world they live in and the truths that have been held from them for so long. As the novel twists and turns Angel finds out more and more and you begin to understand things at the same pace, or even a little bit behind Angel. This style of writing is what makes the novel so intriguing. As you come to find that Angel and Micheal aren't where they think they are and that they aren't who they think they are you get twisted into their world. The plot continues to grow in complexity as the story continues and by the end everything fits, even tiny details that are scattered throughout the book, things you wouldn't even look twice at. This is one of those books that is even better the second time you read it because you catch more and more of the details and you can add missing pieces to the seemingly finished puzzle. I promise you, this is a page turner and a true masterpiece with it's mix of romance, action, mystery, and drama.

I don't usually read anything in the science fiction genre. I picked this book up merely because I thought it was a romance novel, but once I started it, I couldn't put it down! I stayed up until 5am because I just had to find out what would become of Angel and Michael once their "connection" was discovered. VIOLET EYES is an excellent read for anyone, I highly recommend it. Don't read it until you have a block of free time though, because it is a definite page turner!! I can't wait for the sequel!

I loved this book. It is so easy to get into. You never know what's going to happen next, and if Angel and Mike are going to get out of it. I loved how intricate it was, and how well writen it is. She left nothing out, it's so real and so POSSIBLE! Read this book. I don't care if you usually don't like "this kind of book", you'll love this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!, July 7, 2005
This review is from: Violet Eyes (Mass Market Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book it was a breath of fresh air. Angel and Michael know from the moment that they met something was different. The fact that they fall in love is enevitable. The only reason i did not give this book a five is the ending was not the best. But i would recommend this book to anyone who wants a romance/sci-fi read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Violet Eyes, January 21, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Violet Eyes (Mass Market Paperback)
Violet Eyes is an intriguing book about the supernatural in a futuristic world. Angel Eastland is a talented teenager who is capable of succeeding at everything she does. Her only competition is Michael Vallant, who she had always disliked before they had actually met. Whenever Angel's family moved, Michael had already lived there, and he had won many contests and earned numerous trophies before Angel moved to that town.
When Angel and Michael met for the first time, they sensed a connection between each other. They both have many talents, share the same fears, and both have violet eyes. Their violet eyes were the result of being created by scientists, who were experimenting with ways to enhance the intelligence of humans. The scientists thought that everyone they created with violet eyes was too intelligent to be classified as human, so they thought of them as a new species.
Once the scientists find Michael and Angel, they forced them to live at the Renaissance building. Michael and Angel despised being tested on, and wanted to escape. They know this will be difficult since security cameras covered every inch of the building and there were guards blocking all exits.
I thought this book was fascinating, and I would recommend it to people who enjoy reading about the supernatural and like suspense woven into every chapter throughout the story.

Filled with great adventure, excitement, tingly feelings, and much more, this novel tells an interesting story that can be life-related through the teenage eyes. One can never predict what event may occur next. Once you get started, it'll be hard to put down. I greatly give this book a 5 stars rating!

5.0 out of 5 stars Two words: Absolutely stunning, January 27, 2002
By
This review is from: Violet Eyes (Mass Market Paperback)
In "Violet Eyes", Nicole Luiken takes several genres (sci-fi, romance, thriller, horror and drama) and blends them together skilfully in one of the most captivating stories for teenagers in recent years.

You'll be hooked from the first line - "I hated Michael Vallant for nine years before I finally met him". 17-year-old Angel Eastland has been living in the shadow of Michael Vallant for years. Moving around from town to town, whenever she comes up with some crazy, original idea she's told that "Michael Vallant suggested it last year". His name is on all the trophies. She's never met him, but she hates him.

Then he arrives in town. His violet eyes are like hers; he's the only person she knows who can match her strength and agility. She's drawn towards him, yet he grates on her nerves.

When teamed up for an upcoming badmintion tournament, they grow closer together but they're starting to get suspicious. What are the chances of two Olympics-class badminton players living in the same small town? What's the story with the occasional strange comments from their friends? Wendy, Angel's best friend, congratulates her for never "slipping up".

Angel and Michael begin to realise that things are not as they seem. Someone is out to get them, and suddenly their normal, teenage lives become dangerous.
