Poignant and deeply moving Violet Perfume (Perfume de Violetas) is one of director Maryse Sistach s most powerful films. It is the first in the Tragaluz Trilogy of Cruelty ( Trilogia de la Crueldad ) on teenage violence. Setting her sights on the growing problem of sexual assault in Mexico City, she fictionalizes the true story of a friendship between two teenagers, Yessica (Ximena Ayala, Ciudades Oscuras/Dark Cities) and Miriam (Nancy Gutierrez), which is torn apart when one of them is brutally raped.
