SYNOPSIS
She is Manhattan's most fabulous Fruit Fly! At 40, Violet (Mindy Cohn from "The Facts of Life") is the racy, fun-loving belle of the ball. She spends her nights as royalty, but when the party ends she always heads home alone. While her co-worker Riley (Sam Whitten) struggles with his baby-crazed boyfriend Markus (Caper Andreas), and her roommate Luke (Jesse Archer) tackles monogo-mania, Violet's romantic life is one big bellyflop. Riley tells her to seek out a straight male version of herself - the mythical "Fag Stag". But glamorous guru Salome (Kim Allen) gives her other advice; To nab a man, she insists, Violet must abandon her gay boys once and for all.

Customer Reviews

The character Salome played by Kim Allen stands out - really hilarious.

A great little feel good kind of movie.....Casper Andreas does it once again with a well written and acted story with fun and laughter and some tears thrown in.

All in all, Violet Tendencies was charming enough but a little less than I'd hoped for.

Violet Tendencies is not without its charms. Mindy Cohn's portrayal of the 40 year old fag hag is spot on; she's funny, outrageous, exuberant, irrepressibly bawdy. Watching cheerfully she describe FUPA (you'll have to watch the movie to find out!) to her date, then her understated reaction to his response sums up her character. Cohn's facial expressions are priceless, her acting a sheer pleasure to watch. There are some nice scenes with her gay friends - including a failed intervention ("something's about to go down and I need to warn you"). Violet's interactions with her beautiful coworker end up being an odd non-starter after a very funny early scene in a restaurant.

The rest of the film takes itself a little too seriously. The coupling and nesting and uncoupling of the gay couples feels forced.

All in all, Violet Tendencies was charming enough but a little less than I'd hoped for.

I will be honest, I am a fan of the Archer/Andreas team, but this was truly a great film. I figured Mindy Cohn would be a cameo role and be on screen for a few minutes. She played the lead, Violet with great grace and heart, this was her movie. In a nutshell, Violet is the fag hag surrounded by a group of gay friends all in c=various stages of relationships, and Violet want to have one of her own. It boils dow to does Violet want to be in a loveless relationship or be happy with her friends. There is a surprise twist at the end. A movie for your collection.

Violet tendencies was a fantastic movie. Im currently serving overseas and over here it can be a depressing reality, and in a act of desperation for somehing different o saw thos movie. The cutness and hallarity of this movie brought me home and made me forget where i was. The acting and directing was amazong as well as very relatable characters. awesome movie

I have ALWAYS enjoyed Embrem films, and I think I own them all, but,. Casper...WOW!!! In this one you reached new heights! The story, the cinematography, the music, I was glued to my screen. Mindy Cohn did an excellent job, as did the rest of the cast...

I wish I knew exactly how to say it...but I am in love with this film. Andreas reached a depth of emotion and realism that is amazing to me. And the humor..."Luke, I am your Father?!?!??!" ROFL!!! Violet attacking the homeless guy on the stairs!!! Salome!!! And you got the Cowboy from the Village People?!?!?! (Sorry, don't think I EVER knew his name) The movie is jam-packed with special little trinkets that all add up to one great treasure.

In my HBAO (humble but accurate opinion) Embrem should be extremely proud of this masterpiece. I will probably watch it twice more this week!

I have always enjoyed Casper's work...but...man...this one blows me away! Thank you SO Much for this experience.

I was really pleasantly surprised at this movie. It was really good! It was positive and upbeat and there were more than a few laughs. And who doesn't love you some Natalie! I would definitely recommend watching this movie!

And this actress is called Mindy Cohn. If it wasn't for her, I would have given this film max.2 stars.
Why? It's full of cliches for example a gay couple: if one is a blond, the other one MUST BE a brunette, both look as if they were cut out of a fashion magazine.
Are gay gays always so womanish? Are they also so egoistic that they would do everything just to keep their fag hag?
And so on and so on.
Even if I didn't fall for this movie completely, I can recommend it to everybody. It has its flows, but also a few good moments (check for example the cat-fight in the office) and as I wrote before - Mindy Cohn is the best here.

This is the second time I am going to review this movie...the first time I did it and tried to explain what this movie is about the "powers that be" didn't like my explanation....so this time I will not tell you what it is about and instead tell you the performances are very good and lots to look at and it is fun. I'm saying I recommend it. You should see what the summary says...I can't tell you without getting in trouble.
