5.0 out of 5 stars Master violinist in top form, March 14, 2003

I have only been able to listen to tracks on radio once, to be honest. But I have since looking hard to find it.

I have listened to the first 2 tracks (the Mozart Rondo and Adagio), one of the Paganinini caprices, and the last track - Allegro assai from Bach's violin sonata no 3). The Mozart tracks showed Milstein in rare romantic form, and very sweet indeed. As the radio host commented, Milstein's Paganini sounded like Bach, and yet his Bach sounded like Paganini. But thte Allegro assai - it is the fastest Allegro assai I've ever heard. He is here, in a live performance, faster than both of his complete studio recordings of the Bach solo violin repertoire that I possess. It was so fast and exciting and yet in such control.

This ERM107 has been so difficult to find, and I'm glad that it is now available.
