I hate to disagree with the former reviewer, but to have the temerity to affirm that they "are not in top form"...is to disregard the difficulty of this music...and the beauty of it. The violin in my view sounds fantastic (as he points out, it is a live recording) and so does the piano. I hope other listeners keep this music in their libraries...and listen to it from time to time: it's good for the soul!

These musicians I respect, but they are not in top form and they aremismatched as far as balance goes. It could be microphone placement, but Argerich is covering Ricci like a ceiling falling in. Ricci's a little sloppy, so maybe that's why. I like both of these performers, but this disk is only for historical purposes in my collection. It lies mostly unplayed. One has to remember, though, that this is live. |
